College Security Report: Feb. 10-16, 2009

Feb. 10

2:27 a.m.— Security discovered the back door to Boundary Hall was unsecured. Security conducted a patrol of the facility and secured the door.

6:15 p.m.— A resident director reported to security that she had found a small bag of marijuana in the bushes near Turner Annex. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and took possession of the bag.

Feb. 11

11:32 a.m.— Security responded to a trip-and-fall medical call at Barnard parking lot involving a non-SCAD individual.

5:08 p.m.— Security responded to medical call at Arnold Hall. A SCAD student had passed out in class. She stated that she had given blood earlier in the day, but was unsure if giving blood had made her pass out. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial Hospital.

7:40 p.m.— A SCAD student notified security that he had been robbed while he was walking home from his class at Wallin Hall. He stated that a man had approached him at 36th and Drayton streets and asked him for a cigarette. When he gave him a cigarette, the man also asked for his wallet, containing $25, and cell phone. The student was not injured. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene.

7:46 p.m.— Security received a call from Memorial Hospital stating that a SCAD student may have left the hospital with an IV needle still attached to her arm.

Feb. 12

12:12 a.m.— Security received a call from a SCAD parent stating the he had not been able to contact his daughter in two days. An operations manager was able to contact the SCAD student and asked her to call her father.

10:35 a.m.— A SCAD student notified security that his vehicle’s front bumper had been damaged while the vehicle was parked at Barnard Village. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and issued a report.

3:24 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security determined the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced and reset.

6:45 p.m.— While conducting a patrol around the perimeter of River Club, security heard beeping coming from the fire panel inside the building. Security determined the alarm was a Commercial Fault Alarm. Security patrolled the area but was unable to reset the alarm.

9:22 p.m.— A SCAD student notified security that his I-Touch cell phone was missing from the computer lab at Arnold Hall. He stated that he had left the cell phone unattended in the computer lab for more than an hour and that the phone was missing when he returned to the lab. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department was contacted, but stated that they do not respond to missing or stolen cell phones.

Feb. 13

1:50 p.m.— Security discovered graffiti in the Oglethorpe House elevator. Pictures were taken of the property damage.

8:16 p.m.— A woman called dispatch stating that she had been unable to contact her nephew for some time. Security contacted the resident director, who was able to contact the student and requested that he call his aunt.

8:25 p.m.— A woman called dispatch stating that she had been unable to contact her granddaughter. Security contacted the resident director at Oglethorpe House, who was able to contact the student and requested that she call her grandmother.

Feb. 14

1:30 a.m.— A SCAD student notified security that he was robbed at gunpoint while he was standing outside his off-campus apartment at 11400 White Bluff Road. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and issued a report.

10:48 a.m.— Security responded to a fire door alarm activation at Eichberg Hall. Security was unable to silence the alarm on the handicapped door, but was able to have the locksmith, who was already on site, come and silence the alarm.

4:35 p.m.— A SCAD student notified security that his bicycle was stolen from 321 West Boundary Street. He stated that he had left the bike sometime Feb. 7 and that the bike was gone when he returned Feb. 14.

Feb. 15

12:16 a.m.— An American Coach bus driver notified security that they had observed a man sleeping on the grass at Boundary and Turner Streets. Security notified the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and requested that they check on the man.

4:48 p.m.— A SCAD professor arrived on site at Wallin Hall and parked in a handicapped spot in front of the building. She asked the security officer if she could have permission to park there so that she could unload materials. When the security officer stated that she could not give permission for anyone to park illegally, the professor became loud and was disturbing other classes. The operations manager arrived on site and spoke with professor, who stated that she just wanted to bring in her materials without any hassle.

10:31 p.m.— A resident director informed security that he had been told that the Dyson Lab was full of smoke. Security responded to the scene and met with a resident assistant who stated that a computer’s hard drive had started smoking. The computer had been unplugged and the situation was under control.

Feb. 16

12:42 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that it was a false alarm and reset the system.

1:26 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from the Oglethorpe House bike rack. She stated that she had locked the bike to the bike rack at 3 p.m.  Feb. 10, and that the bike was gone when she returned at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 11. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to dispatch and issued a report.

2:20 p.m.— Security responded to a call stating that a student and a staff member were having an altercation at the back of Hamilton Hall. Upon arrival at the scene, security spoke with both individuals. The SCAD student was returning equipment to the staff member. The staff member informed the student that the equipment was late and that other students were waiting to sign out the equipment. The discussion over the late return of the equipment escalated to an argument. When security arrived at the scene the student returned to his car to depart and the staff member returned to work.

5:10 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was caused by students cooking in the room. Security silenced and reset the system.

5:50 p.m.— Security responded to a vehicle accident involving a SCAD bus driver and a non-SCAD vehicle driven. There were no injuries reported. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene and issued a report.
