College Security Report Feb. 15-20, 2011

February 15

3:30 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Oglethorpe House involving a student having a seizure. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Health Center.

6:37 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Oglethorpe House involving a student that cut her finger while working on a project. EMS responded to the scene and provided first aid. The student was not transported to the hospital.

8 a.m. — A student reported to security that someone left a threatening note on his vehicle in reference to the way he parked. There was no damage to the vehicle and the student did not wish to file a police report.

9:05 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm in the mechanical room of Weston House. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm was a heat sensor alarm. The alarm was silenced and reset.

February 16

1:28 p.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident involving a SCAD student vehicle and a First Transit bus. There were no injuries reported. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

February 17

12:20 a.m. — Security discovered an unsecured front door at Bobbie’s Diner. Extra patrols of the building were conducted throughout the night.

1:16 a.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Boundary Village. Upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was caused by steam from the shower.

6:49 p.m. — Savannah-Chatham Metro Police notified security of the arrest of two SCAD students for felony theft at Belk department store. Security notified the on-call manager and resident director.

7:20 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at room Boundary Village. Upon investigation it was determined that a student cooking in the dorm caused the alarm.

7:25 p.m. — An on-call counselor requested that security check on a student at her off-campus apartment because the student missed an appointment and could not be reached.  Security made contact with the student and requested that the student call the counselor.

7:40 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. Upon investigation it was determined that a student cooking in the dorm caused the alarm. The student removed the smoke detector prior to security’s arrival. Sonitrol was notified and responded to the scene to repair the detector.

9:37 p.m. — Security was notified that there was a man walking around the Oglethorpe House area exposing himself and masturbating. Security notified Savannah-Chatham Metro Police with a description of the male. Police responded to the scene and took the man into custody.

February 18

12:18 a.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Abercorn Terrace. The Alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was reset.

February 19

12:0 p.m. — A student reported to security that she lost her ID at the Trustees Theater between 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. the day before.

12:30 p.m. — A student reported to security that his vehicle had been vandalized at an off-campus location. The student stated that he already reported the incident to Savannah-Chatham Metro Police and that they issued a crime report.

1 p.m. — A vehicle passed through the Weston Dyson booth without the driver showing ID. A security supervisor responded to the scene and determined that the driver was a SCAD student but the passenger was not. Security explained to the driver that all visitors must sign in and that all vehicles must stop at the security booth to show ID.

4:55 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at Barnard Village. A student cooking in the dorm was determined to have caused the alarm.

9:25 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Montgomery Hall. The alarm was determined to be a ground fault problem and Sonitrol was notified of the issue.

February 20

1:49 a.m. — Security responded to the Weston Dyson booth where an unknown individual was attempting to enter the dorm area. The individual gave a name and stated that he had fallen and hit his head and wanted medical attention. EMS responded to the scene and transported the man to the hospital. The person was not affiliated with SCAD.

11:30 a.m. — A student reported to security that his camera was missing from Eichberg Hall. The student stated that he left the camera in a bag in Eichberg the day before. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

4 p.m. — A student reported to security that her stolen bicycle had been recovered at the Seka bike shop.

10:31 p.m. — Security responded to Turner Annex for a possible drug policy violation. A resident advisor stated that there was suspected marijuana use in a dorm room. A search of the room was conducted but no drugs were found. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded at the request of the resident director. A student admitted to police that he used a vaporizer to smoke marijuana. Police disposed of the vaporizer.  No charges were filed.
