College Security Report: Jan. 12-19, 2010

Jan. 12

1:15 p.m.— Security responded to a call about an unknown man walking around in Turner Annex attempting to post some unauthorized posters. An operation manager responded to the area and conducted several internal and external rounds of the building. She was unable to find the person.

2:08 p.m.— Security dispatch was notified of a small fire at Turner House. It was reported that maintenance was welding in the area and sparked a brush fire.
A fire extinguisher was used to put the fire out. An environmental safety and health manager was contacted and the extinguisher was replaced.

5 p.m.— An operations manager was contacted by a SCAD student because he found what appeared to be a homeless camp between Old Arch and Boundary Village. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police were contacted due to the fact that approximately 30 dismantled bikes were found at the camp. A police officer conducted the field investigation and determined that the site had not been lived in for about a year. No police report was generated, and the officer did not remove anything from the site.

Jan. 13

5:30 p.m.— A SCAD building manager reported to security that three of the parking restriction signs were missing from the Morris Hall parking lot. Parking Services was notified of the missing signs.

Jan. 14

6:15 p.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Fahm Hall. A SCAD student stated that he was feeling ill and had passed out while attending class. The student also stated that he had been smoking marijuana earlier in the day. EMS responded to the scene, but the student refused treatment. The student stated that he would go to Candler Hospital with a friend.

7:30 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from the bike rack at Arnold Hall. He stated that he had locked the bike to the rack at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 11, and that he noticed the bike missing at 7:30 p.m. the same day. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to dispatch and issued a report.

10:40 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that two individuals had stolen her car from Barnard and 48th streets. She stated that she did not sustain any injuries, but that her pocketbook and SCAD ID had also been stolen. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and recovered the vehicle a short time later, taking two individuals into custody. The police issued a report.

Jan. 15

3:30 a.m.— Security stopped a SCAD student from entering Turner House using a SCAD ID belonging to another student. The student surrendered the ID, departed the scene and then returned with her proper ID.

Jan. 16

11:09 a.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Turner Express involving a SCAD student. The student stated that he had taken a cab to Statesboro the night before and had either been in an accident or had been beaten up. The student stated that he did not remember much of what occurred the night before since he had been drinking, but that he returned to campus via taxi cab. The student did not request EMS response, but stated that he would have a friend take him back to Statesboro so that he could file a police report.

2 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her car had been stolen from her off-campus residence on Habersham Street. She stated that she had last seen the car at 9 p.m. Jan. 15, and that a neighbor noticed the car missing at 5 a.m. Jan. 16. No broken glass was found in the area, but the student suspects that someone cut through her convertible top to steal the vehicle. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

Jan. 17

11:15 a.m.— Security responded to a call box activation at the 49th Street parking lot. No one was present at the box when security arrived.

12:50 p.m.— Security was notified of a vehicle accident involving SCAD students at Jones and West Boundary streets. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report. No injuries were reported.

2 p.m.— Security observed a student mooning the female booth security officer from the window of a Boundary Hall room. When told by security that he shouldn’t be doing that, the student stated, “I can do whatever I want.” Security notified the residence director and was told that a resident assistant would respond to the room to handle the situation.

5:28 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that he had accidentally backed into a parked car at Barnard Village damaging the driver’s side mirror. The damaged car is owned by another SCAD student. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

Jan. 18

No activity was reported.

Jan. 19

11:58 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his vehicle had been hit while it was parked at Hamilton Hall. He stated that he had parked the car at 8 a.m. Jan. 19, and that he noticed the damage when he returned to the vehicle at 11:50 a.m. A note had been left on the vehicle by another SCAD student, stating that she had accidentally hit the vehicle while trying to park. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

3 p.m.— A SCAD student notified security that her spare tire had been stolen off her vehicle. She stated that she had last seen the tire at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 18, and that she noticed the tire missing at 10 a.m. Jan. 19. She stated that she had driven the vehicle to numerous off-campus locations and was not sure if the tire had been stolen while she was on or off campus. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

8:45 p.m.— Security received a call from a SCAD parent stating that she had received a threatening note on Facebook from her daughter’s former roommate. Dispatch requested that the on-call manager give the parent a call.
