College Security Report Jan. 31-Feb. 6, 2011

January 31

5:40 p.m. — A student reported to security that his vehicle had been damaged while it was parked on 61st Street near Abercorn Terrace. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene but did not write a report.

6:40 p.m. — A student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from in front of Murphy’s Law Pub between 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 30 and 1:30 a.m. Jan. 31. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

7:45 p.m. — Security responded to a student having a diabetic attack at Weston House. EMS responded to the scene, but did not transport the student.

9:13 p.m. — A student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from the bike rack at Oglethorpe House. Miss Jenkins stated that she locked the bike to the rack on Jan. 28. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report number.

February 1

8:15 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm at room Barnard Village. Upon investigation it was determined that a student cooking in the room caused the alarm.

8:21 p.m. — Security received a call from a parent who stated that his daughter, a SCAD student, had been sick for some time and needed a ride to the hospital. Security responded to the scene with the resident director and a cab ride was arranged for the student.

9 p.m. — A student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from in front of Club SCAD. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

February 2

2:20 p.m. — A student reported to security that her bike was stolen. She stated that she locked the bike to the wooden railing in front of her home on Jan. 31 and when she returned from class on Feb. 1, the wooden railing was broken and the bike was gone. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded and issued a crime report.

5:10 p.m. — Security responded to Alexander Hall in reference to a vending machine that had been broken into. Upon arrival, security found the plexiglass front pushed into the interior of the machine.

5 p.m. — Security responded to Wallin Hall in reference to someone who had fallen. Upon arrival, security was told that someone fell while exiting the elevator. The person did not need medical attention.

5:10 p.m. — Security responded to Arnold Hall in reference to an unknown man standing out front. Security searched the area but did not find anyone matching the description given.

February 3

2:11 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Oglethorpe House involving an intoxicated student that had fallen on the stairs. A resident director recognized the student, who refused to identify himself or show ID. EMS responded to the scene and stated that the student did not need to be transported and could proceed to his room.

9:15 a.m. — Security responded to a hit and run vehicle accident in the Gulfstream Center parking lot. A student stated that someone hit the front of her car between 5-9 a.m. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

1:17 p.m. — Security responded to a “smoke” alarm Barnard Village. Security met Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room.

2:12 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Boundary Village. The alarm silenced and reset itself.

2:15 p.m. — A student reported to security that there was a homeless man standing across the canal from Boundary Village watching her through her open window. Security responded to the scene across the canal, but the individual was gone. Security notified Savannah-Chatham Metro Police to file a report.

February 4

12:20 a.m. — Two resident advisors at Dyson House called security regarding a possible drug policy violation. The advisors stated that they noticed a strong marijuana smell coming from a room. Security met the resident director at the scene and it was determined that the occupants of the room were smoking marijuana from a glass pipe. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was contacted. Two students were arrested for possession.

2 p.m. — Security responded Hamilton Hall regarding a disorderly student. The student refused to show any form of ID and was disrupting class. The college security manager and Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene. The student continued to be disruptive and would not comply with requests to leave the building. The student was taken into custody and transported by police.

11:31 p.m. — Security received a call from a student requesting to speak with an on-call counselor. Security called the counselor and transferred the student’s call.

February 5

12:09 a.m. — Security received a call from a student requesting to speak with an on-call counselor. Security called the counselor and transferred the student’s call.

12:30 a.m. — A student reported to security that her vehicle had been broken into on East Bolton Street and her GPS unit had been stolen. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report.

1 a.m. — A student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from the bike rack at Montgomery Hall. The student did not wish to file a police report.

8:25 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Weston House. Security met EMS at the scene and the student was transported to Memorial University Medical Center for an unknown illness.

11:43 a.m. — A parent contacted security and requested information regarding her son, a student, being transported to the hospital. Security took the parents’ information and passed it on to the on-call manager.

12:35 p.m. — Security responded to Ex Libris regarding a shoplifting incident. An Ex Libris employee stated that she observed two children stealing video games. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and, after recovering a number of items from the boys’ pockets, departed the store with the boys in custody. Police issued a crime report.

5 p.m. — Security responded to “smoke” alarm activation at Abercorn Terrace. Security met Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm was caused by steam from the shower.

10:39 p.m. — Security met the resident director at Dyson House regarding a policy violation. During a routine room check, a 24-pack of beer and possible drug paraphernalia was discovered. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the room and confiscated the drug paraphernalia. No police report was issued. One student admitted that the paraphernalia belonged to him and three other students admitted to having the beer.

11:34 p.m. — Security responded to a “pull station” alarm at Magnolia House. It was determined that a guest activated the alarm after becoming impatient while waiting for a ride. The guest departed prior to security’s arrival. No smoke or haze was present and the alarm was reset by security.

February 6

2:05 a.m. — Two students reported to security that two males had punched them while they were walking near the Burger King on Marin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued a crime report. The students, who appeared intoxicated, stated that they had been drinking at an unknown location on 31st Street and had decided to walk back to their dorm. EMS responded to the scene and transported one of the students to Memorial University Health Center to be examined.

4:58 a.m. — Security was notified of an off-campus, domestic dispute near Abercorn Terrace. The persons involved were not SCAD related. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police was notified.

5:16 a.m. — An intoxicated man attempted to enter Barnard Village. The man did not speak English and would not leave when confronted by security. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene. It was determined that the man was lost, having recently left a bar. Police transported the individual from the scene.

11:13 a.m. — Security responded to Café SCAD in reference to a student having a seizure. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Health Center.

12 p.m. — A student reported to security that his vehicle had been broken into while it was parked off campus on East Bolton Street. The student’s I-Pod and GPS unit were missing from the car. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene and issued crime report.

5 p.m. — Security responded to a “trouble” alarm at Barnard Village. The resident of the room stated that Sonitrol had recently been working on the system and there might still be some problem. Sonitrol was notified of the alarm.

5:15 p.m. — Security responded to Ex Libris regarding a shoplifting incident. An Ex Libris employee stated that she observed three minors stealing video games. The employee contacted the boys’ guardian who then came to the store. The guardian offered to pay for the items. The store manager accepted the offer to pay for the items and declined to have the police notified.
