College Security Report: July 27-Aug. 2, 2009

July 27

No activity was reported.

July 28

8:12 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that someone had stolen her wallet out of her purse in the Atlanta Greyhound bus station. The student stated that she had accidentally left her purse in the bathroom between 11:30 p.m. on July 27 and 12:01 a.m. July 28. When she returned to the bathroom her purse wallet was missing, but her purse was still there. The wallet contained two credit cards, $40 and her SCAD ID.

July 29

9:13 p.m.— Security was notified of a strong burning smell in the laundry room at Oglethorpe House. Security responded to the scene and dispatched the Savannah Fire Department. Upon investigation it was determined that the odor was caused by a burned out washing machine motor.

July 30

11:15 a.m.— Security was notified of an alarm activation at Keys Hall. Upon security’s arrival at the scene, the alarm had already been silenced and reset. Staff members at Keys Hall stated that the fire marshal was on site testing the system.

2:36 p.m.— A SCAD staff member reported to security that he had observed a SCAD student reach into a parked yellow Ford Mustang twice at Gulfstream. The vehicle was owned by another SCAD student. She stated that she did not believe anything was missing from her vehicle. Security spoke with the first student who stated that he was not trying to steal anything, but that he was looking for designs.

2:40 p.m.— Security was notified of an alarm activation at Jen Library. Security determined that the alarm was false and the system was silenced and reset.

7:57 p.m.— Security discovered that a lamp post at the rear of Eichberg Hall had been knocked down. The lamp post was still receiving power. Since a storm was predicted to go through the downtown area, maintenance was called and disconnected power to the lamp.

July 31

8:15 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at the Jen Library. The Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that the alarm was false. Security was unable to reset the alarm. Dispatch notified Sonitrol alarm company of the false alarm and requested that a work order be issued to have a technician check the system.

7:27 p.m.— Security responded to a trouble alarm activation at Poetter Hall. A walk-through was conducted of the building and the alarm was determined to be false. The system was silenced, but could not be reset. Sonitrol alarm company was notified of the situation and a work order was placed to have a technician check the system.

7:52 p.m.— Security responded to a call box activation at Bergen Hall. A patrol of the area was conducted and nothing out of the ordinary was found.

Aug. 1

4:30 p.m.— Security was notified of a fire door alarm at Eichberg Hall. Upon investigation it was determined that a cleaner had exited the building through the fire door. Since security did not have a key to reset this fire door, maintenance was notified of the situation and responded to the scene to silence the alarm.

Aug. 2

12:17 p.m.— Security responded to a call box activation at Arnold Hall. A patrol of the area was conducted and nothing out of the ordinary was found.

9:50 p.m.— A SCAD staff member reported to security that his key was stuck in the lock at the main entrance to Harris Hall and he was unable to access the building. He was notified that a locksmith would be dispatched to the building at 6 a.m. Aug. 3. Security was assigned extra patrols of Harris Hall.
