College Security Report: May 18-July 11, 2010

May 18
2 a.m. — Security was notified that an empty kiln had been left on at Fahm Hall.  Security shut off the kiln.

8 p.m. — A student reported to security that her front windshield had been cracked while her vehicle was parked along the 52nd Street side of Montgomery Hall.  She stated that she parked the vehicle at 2 p.m. and noticed the damage when she returned at 8 p.m. The student did not wish to file a police report.

May 19
5 a.m. — A student reported to security that his vehicle had been damaged while parked at Montgomery Hall. It appeared someone attempted to get into his car though the sunroof. Nothing was missing and the student did not want Savannah-Chatham Metro Police response.

12 p.m. — A student reported to security that her laptop had been stolen from the third-floor studio of Eichberg Hall. She had placed the laptop in her unlocked toolbox at 9:30 a.m. and discovered it was missing when she returned at noon. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene.

12 p.m. —A student reported to security that her laptop had been stolen from the third-floor studio of Eichberg Hall. She had placed the laptop in her purse at 9:30 a.m. and discovered it was missing when she returned at 11 a.m. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene.

12 p.m. — Security responded to a call from the Streamliner Diner stating there was a woman behaving strangely in the parking lot. It was reported that the woman was not wearing a shirt and had scissors in her hand. Upon arrival at the scene, security met with a woman who was sitting in her vehicle. The woman presented a SCAD ID and stated she was a SCAD employee and was waiting for friends. The female employee was properly dressed and showed no signs of behavioral issues. Security continued to patrol the area until she departed.

10:20 p.m. — Security responded to a report of a verbal dispute in the Alexander Hall parking lot. A SCAD reported that her boyfriend had been harassing her and had been using her spare key to set off her car alarm. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded but the boyfriend left prior to their arrival. Police did not file a report. Security suggested that the female student park her car at Weston-Dyson and use a safe ride back and forth to Alexander Hall.

May 20
1 a.m. — Security responded to a trouble alarm activation at Barnard Village. A patrol of the area confirmed a false alarm and Sonitrol was notified to place a work order to have the system checked.

3:14 p.m. — A SCAD parent requested that security check on her daughter in Boundary Village. The parent stated her daughter was having problems with her roommate. Security notified the resident director and met them at the scene. Upon investigation it was determined that the student and her roommate had had a verbal argument over who was responsible for buying toilet paper. The resident director stated he would handle the incident.

5:22 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her bike seat had been stolen from her bike at Pepe Hall. She stated that she secured the bike to the bike rack at 2:02 p.m. and the seat was missing when she returned at 3:10 p.m. The student did not wish to file a police report.

5:30 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that someone keyed her car while it was parked at Boundary Village. She stated that she parked her car in front of the 2000 building at 10 p.m. on May 19 and she noticed that the car was damaged when she returned at 10:35 a.m. on May 20. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene. The student stated that her car had been keyed seven times in the past, but had not reported any incidents in over a year.

7:32 p.m. — Security responded to a two students in a physical altercation at Turner House. Upon arrival security met with resident directors who requested Savannah-Chatham Metro Police response. Police arrived and advised the resident directors that any discipline regarding the fight should be handled through the college. An on-call manager was then notified of the incident. Both students were informed that they would be contacted by the Student Conduct Department regarding the incident. The students were then escorted back to their individual rooms.

10:35 p.m. — A SCAD student notified security that, at an unknown time and an unknown location, his vehicle had been hit by another vehicle. He noticed the damage on May 19 while at Wallin Hall, but is certain that the damage occurred while the vehicle was parked in the Weston Dyson lot. The student did not want Savannah-Chatham Metro Police notified.

May 21
9:17 p.m. — Security responded to a “general fire alarm” at Boundary Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced and reset.

11:48 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that his laptop had been stolen from the Turner Annex lobby. He stated that he left the laptop unsecured in the lobby at 2 p.m. to take a nap and that the laptop was gone when he returned at 11:30 p.m. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene.

May 22
10:30 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Kiah Hall. Upon investigation it was determined to be a false alarm and the building was secure. Sonitrol was able to reset the alarm remotely.

11:30 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from Wallin Hall. She stated that she had left the bike unsecured at the Wallin Hall bike rack at 11:20 a.m. and the bike was gone when she returned 15 minutes later. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded.

1:50 p.m. — Security responded to an elevator entrapment at Wallin Hall. The student was able to get out of the elevator prior to security’s arrival.

May 23
No activity was reported.

May 25
8 p.m. — Security responded to a call regarding a dog tied up to the air conditioning unit at Montgomery Hall. It was discovered that the dog was owned by a SCAD student and the building manager had given him permission to have the dog on site.

12:15 p.m. — A minor vehicle accident at Gordon Hall was reported to security. The accident involved a SCAD professor. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene.

2 p.m. — A SCAD staff member reported to security that a student driving a silver Montero Sport had bumped into his vehicle while trying to park at Hamilton Hall and had left the scene. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene.

May 26
7:57 p.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident at Oglethorpe House involving a SCAD student and a SCAD parent. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene, but the officer stated a report would not be done for an accident that happened on private property. The two involved parties exchanged information and left the scene.

9:23 p.m. — A SCAD student contacted security and stated that she wished to speak with the on-call counselor because she was thinking of ending her life. Security contacted then transferred the student to the counselor.

May 27
11:30 a.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident at Keys Hall involving a SCAD employee and a non-SCAD individual. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene.

1:17 p.m. — Security responded to a smoke detector activation at Abercorn Terrace. Security met the Savannah Fire Department on scene and the alarm was determined to be a false alarm.

2:10 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Alexander Hall involving a SCAD student. Security met EMS at the scene. The student stated that she was not feeling well, but did not think she needed to go to the hospital. She was given a ride home.

May 28
12:18 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that his bike was missing from Turner House courtyard. He stated that he locked the bike behind the guard booth on May 19 and that he noticed the bike was missing on May 25. The student did not want Savanna-Chatham Metro Police response and the bike was not registered with SCAD security.

8 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her mini fridge was missing from Weston House. She stated that she placed the fridge outside her dorm at 3 a.m. to defrost it and the fridge was missing when she looked for it at 8 a.m.

9:30 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her mini fridge was missing from Weston House. She stated that she placed the fridge outside her dorm at Midnight to defrost it and the fridge was missing when she looked for it at 09:30 a.m.

10 a.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident involving a SCAD student and a parked vehicle. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police responded to the scene.

11:20 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Abercorn Terrace. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm was a false alarm.

7:50 p.m. — Security responded to an off-campus vehicle accident involving a SCAD student and a non-SCAD driven vehicle. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police were already on scene and no injuries were reported.

9:01 p.m. — Security responded to a “general waterflow” alarm at Turner House. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and was unable to access the area of the alarm. An International Fire representative and maintenance were notified and responded to the scene. The alarm was able to be silenced and reset.

May 29
7:40 p.m. — Security responded to the Civic Center for a medical call. A SCAD student stated that she had injured her finger when a storage trunk closed on her hand. She declined EMS. A SCAD professor who was on the scene stated that she would take the student to Memorial Hospital.

10:08 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Barnard Village. Upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was a false alarm and the system was silenced and reset.

May 30
10:35 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Boundary Village. Upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was a false alarm and the system was silenced and reset.

May 31
10:50 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Pepe Hall. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was a false alarm and the system was silenced and reset.

June 8
12:40 p.m. — A SCAD student was in the Dyson House parking lot when she began to shake uncontrollably. A security office on post at the gate noticed the student and went to see if she was ok. She stated she has a medical condition that causes her to shake often and that she had recently taken her medication. An operational manager was called. The student did not want to contact EMS.

June 10
2 p.m. — An operation manager responded to Barnard Village “trouble” alarm. The alarm panel displayed a “smoke photoelectric missing” readout in reference to a specific room. Sonitrol was notified of the situation. The alarm was reactivated at 11:45 p.m. and then restored itself to “All systems normal” readout. There was no sign on smoke or fire near or in the room. The alarm was placed on the maintenance log.

June 11
9:58 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at unit Abercorn Terrace. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm was a false alarm.

June 12
No activity was reported.

June 13
11:41 a.m. — Security discovered the front door to Gulfstream Center for Industrial and Furniture Design to be unsecured. Security conducted a foot patrol of the building and then secured the door.

2:57 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at the north elevator on the 6th floor of Oglethorpe House. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm was a false alarm.

11:35 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation with evacuation at Boundary Hall. Security met the Savannah Fire Department on the scene and it was determined that the alarm was caused by contractors using spray paint in the building. The alarm was silenced and reset.

June 25
1 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security the theft of a bike from her Hall Street residence. The student stated that she momentarily left her bike outside while she entered her apartment and that the bike was gone when she returned.

12:31 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Kiah Hall. Security determined it to be a false alarm and the system was silenced and reset.

June 26
3:41 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Lucas Theater. Security determined it to be a false alarm and the system was silenced and reset..

5:39 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Alexander Hall. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student using a fog machine in the building.

8:04 p.m. — Security responded to a “ground fault: main panel” alarm activation at Boundary Hall. No problems were found by security. Sonitrol was notified of the alarm and stated that the system would be checked on Monday.

10:13 p.m. — Security responded to a call box activation at Eckburg Hall. A patrol of the area was conducted and no one was in the vicinity of the call box.

June 27
4 p.m. — A student at O-House was reported to have a cut her finger. ABM was needed for minor clean-up. There was no information given regarding the injured student.

June 30
9.56 p.m. — A security officer reported an unknown male sleeping on the rear steps of Rive Club. The unknown person was asked to leave the premises. The man complied and walked toward Bay Street without further incident.

July 5
No activity was reported.

July 7
12:20 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Poetter Hall. The Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and it was determined that the alarm was caused by water leaking into a smoke detector. Maintenance was notified and the alarm was silenced and reset.

10:03 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Kiah Hall. The building exterior was patrolled and the building was found to be secure. Sonitrol stated that the alarm periodically activates and resets itself. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm and a work order was placed to have the alarm checked.

July 8
12:35 p.m. — A SCAD employee reported that his Blackberry was stolen from his desk in Poetter Hall. He stated that he left the Blackberry in its original box inside his desk on July 2 and the phone was discovered missing on July 6.

10:07 p.m. — Security responded to a call box alarm activation at Arnold Hall. A foot patrol of the area was conducted and the alarm was determined to be a false alarm.

July 9
1:02 a.m. — Security responded to a alarm activation at Barnard Village. Security performed a patrol of the area and the alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was reset.

6:05 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Barnard Village. Security performed a patrol of the area and the alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was reset.

8:39 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Fahm Hall. It was determined that a child of a guest at the Fahm Gallery had pulled the alarm. There was no emergency and the system was reset.

July 10
No activity was reported.

July 11
2:37 p.m. — Security responded to a “Zone 4” alarm activation at Eckberg Hall. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and the alarm was determined to be a false alarm and was silenced and reset.
