College Security Report: Oct. 20-27, 2008

Oct. 20
1 a.m.—Security responded to Barnard Village in reference to a fire alarm. The fire department also arrived, but no fire was found. However alcoholic beverages and three fake guns were found. The alcoholic drinks were emptied and the fake guns confiscated by a resident assistant.

7:08 a.m.—Security responded to Barnard Village room 3203 in reference to a fire alarm. The fire department and security arrived no fire was found. No one injured.

7:41 a.m. —A SCAD student backed a vehicle into another vehicle in Barnard Village parking lot. No one was injured. A police report was filed.

9:18 a.m.—Security discovered graffiti on Turner House elevators. Photos were taken.

1:38 p.m.—Security responded to Barnard Village in reference to a fire alarm. The fire department and security arrived, but no fire was found. No one injured.

1:50 p.m.—An unknown person attempted to enter Gulfstream Center with an ax. The person could provide proper ID to gain entry. Access was denied and the person left the ax with the officer. The ax was taken the security headquarters.

5:24 p.m.— Security responded to a Weston House room in reference to a power outage. The resident director was contacted.

9:10 p.m.—A SCAD student was attacked by an unknown person. He was hit in the head near the ear. The student did not want medical attention. A police report was filed.

9:15 a.m.—A SCAD student stated that while at Jen Library an employee at the library began talk to him in a threatening way. He stated that the employee would not give him their name. There was a witness, however, she departed prior to security arrival.

Oct. 22

12:44 a.m.—Security responded to multiple alarms at Barnard Village. After performing a patrol of the scene, security determined the alarms were false alarm and reset the system.

1:15 a.m.—Security responded to an intrusion alarm at Boundary Hall. A patrol was conducted and the alarm was determined to be false and was reset.

2:27 a.m.—Security responded to an intrusion alarm at JO’s. A patrol was conducted, the alarm was determined to be false alarm and the alarm was reset.

7:17 a.m.—Security discovered graffiti throughout Turner House. Photos were taken of the damage.

10 a.m.—A dining office employee notified security that one of the windows to the dining office building was broken. The employee stated that no one worked in the building the day before and that he was unsure when the window may have been broken.

10:09 a.m.—Security was notified of an of campus vehicle collision at Barnard and Oglethorpe streets involving an American Coach Lines bus and SCAD student on a bicycle. Police responded to the scene and generated a report. No injuries were reported

4:30 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that while backing up, her vehicle accidentally struck another vehicle belonging to a SCAD student at Wallin Hall. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

6:33 p.m.—An individual, not affiliated with SCAD, entered Arnold Hall and complained that he was experiencing chest pains. EMS was called and individual was transported off site.

8:17 p.m.—Security responded to a call that a student was taped to a lamppost on the Turner House Bridge. Upon investigation security determined that the students on the bridge were involved in a photo shoot. The resident assistant stated that the students were not authorized to film on the bridge and asked the participants to depart the area.

8:30 p.m.— Security discovered the door leading into ShopSCAD from Poetter Hall was unsecured. The Poetter Hall officer was instructed to watch the door until it was secured. Security reported ShopSCAD staff would be notified of the incident the following morning.

9:40 p.m.—Security responded an alarm at Alexander Hall. After performing a patrol of the scene, it was determined that the alarm was false. The system was reset.

11:47 p.m.—A resident director at Turner House reported to security that someone had broken the glass out of a fire extinguisher. A maintenance request was submitted to have the glass replaced.

Oct. 23

8:59 a.m.—Maintenance reported to security that they had found graffiti on the sixth floor walkway of Oglethorpe House. Photos were taken of the damage.

9:51 a.m.—Police informed security that they had received a call stating that there was a man walking around in Montgomery Hall with a knife. Security and police responded to the scene and determined that the call was a prank phone call.

2:03 p.m.—Security received a call that four students were stuck in the elevator at the student center. Atlantic Coast Elevator Services was notified and responded to the scene to get the students out of the elevator.

6:31 p.m.— Security discovered the upstairs exterior door of Keys Hall to be unsecured. A patrol of the building was conducted and the door was secured.

8:33 p.m.—Security responded to a smoke detector activation at Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was alarm and the system was reset.

Oct. 24

1:40 a.m.—Security was notified of a vehicle crash at Turner and Boundary streets. There were no injuries reported. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

2:10 a.m.—Security responded to ground floor room of Turner House. Someone had smashed a pumpkin all over a dorm room door. Photos were taken of the damage.

1 p.m. —A SCAD student reported to security that she knew a student who had vandalized the 5th floor elevator at Turner House with graffiti. She did not know the student’s name, but was able to point him out to security later. The student was later identified.

1:05 p.m.—Security responded to a vehicle collision in the Eichberg Hall parking lot. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

5:38 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that he had witnessed a white pickup truck back into a green Trek mountain bike at Oglethorpe House.

9:50 p.m.— Security discovered the Morris Hall storage room was unsecured. A patrol was conducted and nothing appeared to be missing.

Oct. 25

11:18 a.m.—Security discovered property damage in the Montgomery Hall restroom. Someone had carved into the bathroom wall with an Exacto blade. Photos were taken of the property damage.

12:30 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that she had left her laptop in the Dyson Lab on Oct. 15 or 16 at 4 p.m. Police responded to the scene and generated a report.

7:21 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at Boundary Village. Upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking. The alarm was silenced and reset.

Oct. 26

6 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that someone had scratched her vehicle while it was parked in the Eichberg Hall parking lot. She stated that she had parked her car in the lot at 5 p.m. and that she noticed the damage when she returned to the car at 6 p.m. Police responded to the scene and generated a report

Oct. 27

6:10 p.m. —Security discovered the exterior boiler room door at Arnold Hall unsecured. The director of security was notified and a locksmith responded to the

7:18 p.m.—Security responded to a call of an upset student at Arnold Hall, who needed to talk with a counselor. The on call counselor responded to the scene and, after speaking with the student, determined it was OK for the student to return to her residence hall. The resident directors were notified of the situation so they could provide follow up for the student.
