The annual Films in Forsyth event will take place at the end of this week, starting with “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” on Thursday and “Frozen” on Friday, both at 8 p.m. This event is in tandem with Parents Weekend and the Sidewalk Arts Festival. Films in Forsyth is not only a relaxing event for SCAD students, but it also invites the whole Savannah community to enjoy a cinema screening in the park.

SAC Director Tyler Greeley, a fourth-year motion media major from Belchertown, Mass., participated in this event almost every year since he began at SCAD and enjoyed every moment of it. “This is my third year working the event and it is my favorite event of the year,” said Greeley. “I think the movie choices will be well received by the community. It should be a lot of fun!”

“I think we’ll get an even bigger crowd than last year, especially because of ‘Frozen,’” added SAC Publicity Coordinator Michael Decker, a second-year graphic design major from Houston, Tex.

Both Greeley and Decker agreed “Frozen” is expected to bring in the biggest crowd because of its popularity with children and adults alike. According to Greeley, there is nothing more thrilling than seeing the park “flooded with people.”

“Films in Forsyth is the largest event put on by SAC, hosting several thousand attendees each night,” said Decker. “That in and of itself brings the community together, giving people from all over the city a chance to meet, chat and watch a movie with their family.”

In addition to watching the films, the audience will also have a chance to win some prizes and give back to Savannah. Since last year, SAC has conducted the 50/50 Raffle. Anyone interested is welcome to donate money to win special event prizes. Some of the prizes include a gift basket from Savannah’s Candy Kitchen and the “Frozen” soundtrack.

“The proceeds raised will be donated to America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia,” said Greeley, who pitched the idea to give prizes to the attendees and money to the local food bank. “The raffle is a great way for us to reach out to local businesses and for us to give back to the community, as well.”

Films in Forsyth is free and open to the public. Concessions provided by SAC will be available for purchase. Everyone is advised to bring a blanket or chairs to get comfortable in during the movie screenings. Also, if you are worried about biting season, don’t sweat it. Michael Decker has got you covered.

“As an added bonus, we’ll have bug spray for everyone!”
