Highlights from Monty After Dark

Last Friday night’s downpour didn’t dampen the energy at Montgomery Hall for Monty After Dark. Amanda Newman, one of the hall’s resident assistants, described the event as a “glow-in-the-dark themed party [for students] to get to know each other after the first week of the quarter.”

After swiping their card on the first floor, students were given glow-in-the dark bands as part of the welcome. There was a face-painting station and students were served popsicles while they waited for their turn in line. Some danced along to Dance, Dance Revolution while others played Ping-Pong.

Yellow tape on the floor formed arrows to guide students to the different rooms. One of the most popular ones was the karaoke room, where students sang heartily along to “I’ll Make A Man Out of You.”

On the second floor, there was a game room where students played Nintendo and Super Mario Kart on the television screens. Outside that room, students lined up for the chance to have their palms read by Madame Zamboni. In the glow room across the hall students drew intricate patterns all over their arms, hands and faces with highlighters that glowed in the dark.

“Monty is isolated and farther away from downtown, [so] it’s important to build a community within the building and even outside Monty, with the rest of the SCAD community,” she said. “The event helps students transition into college more easily and even if you’re done with the transition, it’s nice to just kick back and relax after homework.”
