Models take to the runway in first show of the night

At the start of the fashion show, audiences watched as the set installations at the Trustees faded to black, animated dots falling from the top of the screen in time with an organ score. As soon as the first model stepped onto the runway and hit the spotlight, the audiences burst into a frenzy of cheers, hoots, and applause. All eyes were on the model as the technicolor background set off the white dress perfectly.

The runway was soon filled with all sorts of trends from monochromatic to bright, pastels, pantsuits and frilly dresses. Some of the outfits had cut-out dresses whereas others had covered the models in such a way that made the audience wonder how they were able to see through all of the fabric. The models remained professional and tore through the runway in an array of heels and boots as well as sneakers and oxfords. Some even carried handbags, while some sported flashy sunglasses.DSC_3861-e1368920946199

The collections ranged from women’s wear to menswear to sportswear. The children’s collection proved to be the most popular as it garnered the loudest applause from audience members. One of the tiny models had to be coaxed onto the runway and shyly strutted along the stage.

Although all of the designers’ collections received a round of applause, certain designers, such as Kat Sommovigo, Anna Harrison, Laurel Newport, and Michelle Leal, received cheers as well. Toward the end of the show, several models, dressed in neon-colored outfits, walked together on the runway. They began to take another trip around when the lights dimmed, revealing that the outfits were accented with blacklight features.

The show concluded as designers appeared onstage and took a bow before taking off into the aisles to greet their families and friends. As the audience members piled up to exit the show, one woman, who had been to several of the SCAD fashion shows, said that the show was “definitely more professional.” She added that it was because “you don’t see Miss J running around.”

Some guests said that they would definitely return to the 8 p.m. show, citing that the designers’ hard work was definitely Vogue-worthy.
