Now that Hurricane Irene’s center of circulation has passed the Georgia coast, the Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) will return to normal operations (Operating Condition 5). Residents are warned that hazardous marine conditions will continue to affect coastal Chatham County. CEMA will maintain close monitoring of the impacts as Hurricane Irene passes Chatham County.
Operating Condition 5 is the routine operating level of the CEMA Emergency Operations Center during the hurricane season. It is in effect when there is no direct threat from a tropical cyclone. During this time, regular monitoring of the Atlantic Basin is conducted for tropical systems that may threaten coastal Georgia.
CEMA encourages residents to use Hurricane Irene as a reminder that Chatham County is at the peak of hurricane season until mid-October. Residents are advised to create an emergency supply kit, know where they will go if an evacuation is ordered and stay informed.
