On Friday, April 11, SCAD hosted its twelfth annual talent show downtown in Savannah’s Trustees Theater.

Volunteers from the Student Activities Council greeted students, faculty and members of the community at the door as they handed out pamphlets listing each act, the three judges, and additional guests.

Following auditions last week, 11 of the top performers were chosen by the judges to showcase their talent in the final production.

“They’re going to be fabulous … This is my first time being involved with the event and I am in awe of all of the talents I’ve seen so far,” said Rebecca Weldon, a professor in SCAD’s liberal arts department.

A few solo artists took the stage for the very first time, and student groups performed in both song and dance.

Writing major and performing arts minor Jazmin Uhruh opened the production with a cover of Lady Gaga’s “Speechless.” With a combination of piano and song, Uhruh’s performance certainly set the bar high for the following acts.

“The overall talent is different each year … for the students especially it makes it more entertaining,” said Cris Dykeman, SCAD’s director of student conduct.

For the chance to win additional money, the audience voted via Twitter and Instagram to determine the winners of the #FAVBEE contest.

Support from the student body swelled as audience members continued on singing long after photography student Claire Tullius, a Savannah native, had finished her performance at the show’s conclusion.

“You guys are awesome,” Tullius said from the stage.

While a variety of awards were distributed, The Bee Sharps Acapella group won the #FAVBEE contest and Konfidential Dance Team took home the first place prize.

Konfidential will host a dance workshop this weekend for all those hoping to improve their skills.
