SCADvenger Hunt creates a closer ‘BEE Fit’

Week three of the BEE Fit Wellness Challenge started off with a sprint. Saturday was the second group challenge. Once again each team was paired against the other, this time in a downtown SCADvenger hunt.

There were five clues total, each in the form of a riddle. We were sent first to find the most photographed location in Savannah: the fountain in Forsyth Park.

“A good indication that you’re in the right place will be that there will be someone there in a Club SCAD shirt,” Jamie said before we were set free to roam around the city.

So when I saw a familiar face at the fountain, Club SCAD employee Jake Rowe, I practically yelped in excitement. Did I mention that it was a lot of fun?

“Okay Orange team, give me 10 burpees,” Jake said.

We finished the workout, and it was such a beautiful day that I didn’t quite hate the burpees as much as usual. I gathered with my team, now my friends, and took a team picture in front of the fountain. Fabio, our leader for the day, quickly opened up our second clue, and we were off again.

We power-walked to Oglethorpe Square, to the statue of The Waving Girl on River Street, through the tunnel on River Street, to City Market, completing workouts at each station.

Our coach Isabella was the familiar face that we saw at the statue of The Waving Girl. At the sight of her, we ran faster, reenergized upon seeing her face as she jumped up and down, just as happy to see us. What I hadn’t anticipated was the way this challenge would turn us into a sort of family.

The final clue sent us back to Club SCAD.

“Okay let’s really go all out for this last one guys,” my teammate Danielle Benskin said.

We jogged to Club SCAD and as we crossed Oglethorpe, we saw our other coach Ali waving us in.

Our voices turned into a muddled excited mass all shouting Ali’s name, and we passed through the doors, finishing in third place after a fourth place start. The Red and Blue teams cheered us into the doors. Through the competition, a mutual understanding lies between all the teams, and everyone wants everyone else to succeed. BEE Fit is bigger than a seven-week competition; it’s about finding a healthy lifestyle and encouraging it in others. In that way, we are all in this together.

BEE Fit continues through the ninth week of classes. The Overall Leaders of the challenge are as follows:

Group Standings

  1. Team RED
  2. Team GREEN
  3. Team ORANGE
  4. Team BLUE
  5. Team PURPLE

After this week’s challenge, I look forward to seeing what the next four weeks have in store.
