Interior designer William Sofield said that every project starts with the customer and must fit their lifestyle. They are all collaborations.

He stressed the importance of learning the customer’s habits — like morning rituals and lighting preferences — to produce the best living space for them.

According to him, a SCAD student needs to think on their feet, be sincere, be ready to create and possess skills such as storyboarding and architecture.
