Connect with industry leaders in journalism, broadcast and multimedia storytelling at this career-focused conference featuring hands-on seminars with topics ranging from filmmaking to social media curation. Award-winning working professionals will be on hand to provide insight, give one-on-one critiques and expose students to new opportunities.

The event is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, January 31. The conference starts with a panel discussion in the Pei Ling Chan Ampitheater and continues all day with classroom workshops. There is no charge to participate, but registration is encouraged.

The award-winning industry professionals will give personalized classroom lectures and offer select students the chance for one-on-one critiques and small group discussions the following day.

The event is sponsored by SCAD’s office of student media, which publishes District, The Manor, SCAD Radio, the HoneyDripper and Port City Review.

Eliza Borne – Editor – Oxford American Magazine | BIO

Eliza Borné is the editor of the Oxford American, a quarterly magazine dedicated to featuring the best in Southern writing. She has edited essays and stories that have been honored by the Best American series, the Pushcart Prize anthology, and elsewhere; in 2016, she accepted the OA’s National Magazine Award in General Excellence. She is the OA’s third editor in the magazine’s 28-year history, and its first female editor. She got her start in editing at age 10 when she founded a beloved but short-lived neighborhood newspaper in Little Rock, Arkansas, called the Girls Gang Gazette.

Miguel Fuller – Radio Personality – COX Radio/Hot 101.5 Tampa | BIO

Miguel Fuller is an on-air radio, tv and online personality. He hosts the Miguel and Holly Show on HOT 101.5 in Tampa, Florida. He also is an on-air contributor to the nationally syndicated TV Show Dish Nation. He also writes a monthly column for the LGBTQ publication Watermark. He grew up in Atlanta, went to Georgia Southern University and after graduation he worked at iHeartMedia in Savannah. Since then, he’s been in Florida radio since 2008. He’s been recognized for his social media work in the broadcasting industry and spotlighted for celebrity interviews at the Billboard and American Music Awards.

Jeremy Nguyen – Cartoonist – The New Yorker | BIO

Jeremy Nguyen is a full-time freelance cartoonist and illustrator. In just three years, Jeremy Nguyen has contributed more than sixty comics and cartoons to The New Yorker magazine. His work can be seen in books, board games, hotels, and he is currently working on a graphic novel anthology about Guantanamo for Abrams Books. He lives in Brooklyn and was an editor for District, the student news website at SCAD, prior to graduation.

Daniel Poler – Cinematographer – Conde Nast | BIO

A filmmaker with a niche in fashion. Daniel has helmed film campaigns for some of the most iconic brands, Carolina Herrera, Victor and Rolf, Prada, Thierry Mugler, Showtime Channel, Smithsonian, Intel, Snap Chat, Hearst, Michael Kors, Saks 5th Avenue, Jason Wu, Zac Posen, Marchesa, Canon, GE, among others. His career as creative director and preditor at Condé Nast, specifically at verticals within Vogue, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, W, GQ, Glamour, and Allure has gained him international recognition. Beyond crafting high-end stylized visual aesthetics, Daniel focuses on creating content based on analytics; the innovative concept behind formats tied strongly to digital social data analysis is what places Condé Nast Entertainment as one of the strongest digital content creators in the industry, with over 1 Billion views a month. Today, Daniel is taking all of the skills that SCAD and his professional life has taught him, to direct his first feature film, which is currently under development. 

Daniel will discuss how he got his start in the industry, how he escalated within a corporation, and what led him to find fundings for his first film. Daniel will also tell students what they can do now to get their portfolios ready for their dream Job. 

Claire Rosen – Photographer and AuthorBIO

Claire Rosen is an award-winning artist whose elaborate constructions often feature anthropomorphic animals, archetypal heroines, or symbolic still-lives evoking the aesthetics of classical painting influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites and referencing the Victorian Era. The transportive images captivate with a fascination of the natural world and ideals of beauty. In 2012 and 2013, Claire earned a place on Forbes “30 under 30” list for Art & Design. Imaginarium: The Process Behind the Pictures,written by Rosen and published in 2017, is a compendium of practical advice and information covering the photographic process—from idea cultivation through execution.
