Taylor Swift’s long-awaited and largely anticipated Eras Tour begins in less than two weeks. I have to ask, are you…Ready For It? A commonly shared personality trait among SCAD students is that a lot of us can identify as Swifties. Whether we are gathering for the release of Midnights or wearing our cardigans almost religiously, SCAD students are the ultimate Swifties. Fans all over the campus, and the world, have spent the last four months in preparation for the tour. For most concerts, all that is needed for preparation is securing your ticket. For Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour, there is a thirteen-step prep process.
- The very first thing in preparation for The Eras Tour was signing up to become a Ticketmaster Verified Fan. This was supposed to allow Swifties to get tickets at face value, rather than a higher resale price.
- Plead for your ticket during the coined Ticketmaster Disaster. On Nov. 15, verified fans waited in the Ticketmaster queue for what felt like eras to get their tickets.
- After you purchased tickets, you had to secure lodging. Since this is a stadium tour, many fans are traveling to a concert in a different city or even a different state. As soon as tour dates and locations were released, hotels raised their prices, creating another hurdle for fans.
- There are a lot of musts for a Taylor Swift concert, and one of them is creating the ultimate tour poster. Many Swifties want to be noticed by TaylorNation, and a creative sign is definitely a way to go!
- Make your friendship bracelets, (take the moment and taste it). As heard in You’re on Your Own Kid, fans are making friendship bracelets to wear to their tour night and to trade with other fans.
- Listen to each Taylor Swift album. This may sound obvious, but be sure you know the lyrics so that you can scream each cathartic bridge with fellow Swifties.
- Listen to the opening artist’s albums. Each artist touring with Taylor for this tour is uniquely talented. Learn their songs so you can enjoy the opening too! And if you lose your voice by the end of the night, just know that the night was a total success.
- Learn about and join fan projects. Some fan projects are for specific nights and specific locations; however, some are planned for each night on tour. I follow @erastaybow on Instagram. For each night of the tour, during the first chorus of Lover, the fans will create a rainbow by showing a different light for different stadium sections.
- A vital part of this tour is choosing what Taylor Swift era you resonate with the most. Maybe you really enjoy the pop of 1989 or the angst in Reputation. Whichever era feels the most like you is important.
- One of the most exciting parts of preparation is choosing your outfit. This will look different for everyone. Some may dress as a character from a music video, while others may choose to dress like lyrics or song titles. Whether you are wearing a Dress or a Mirrorball, you will look Gorgeous.
- Constantly checking and rechecking Taylor Swift’s and Taylor Nation’s social media for clues about the tour. Clues can be about special guests, secret surprises or maybe even an album release. Regardless, I know my post notifications are on.
- Securing tickets for The Eras Tour might be your biggest flex this year. It should be something you are proud of, and there’s no shame in showing off your concert videos and pictures. Pick out the most creative, lyric-inspired captions now to be prepared.
- You may recall images of Taylor Swift with her lucky number thirteen on her hand during previous tours. Before you leave for your tour night, take your eyeliner and draw the thirteen too! Who knows, maybe you’ll be The Lucky One.
