Would you like to experience another country’s food and cultural dance without leaving Savannah?

If you answered yes, then the International Festival hosted by SCAD is where you should be April 7.

“We have a record number of cultural and student clubs participating by setting up booths this year,” said Jeffrey Jones, director of International Student Services. “So many [in] fact that tents may extend all the way down to the entrance of the Jen Library.”

There is a list of 23 booths participating this year, nine of which are student clubs and organizations. The rest are cultural booths from different parts of the world such as Venezuela, Kenya, Korea, Iran and Denmark, among others.

There will also be five different local restaurants participating this year: Casbah, Sushi Zen, Taste of India, Ruan Thai Cuisine and Middle Eastern Cuisine.

But the festival includes more than just heady food.

“The International Festival’s fashion show is often referred to as the highlight of the annual SCAD International Festival,” the ISSO Savannah newsletter states.

This year they plan to uphold that reputation by collaborating with Coastal Middle School’s cultural club.

“The global fashion show showcase will feature six middle school students from the Coastal Middle School, in tandem with fifteen SCAD students,” said Jones.

The International Festival is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on April 7 between the Jen Library and the Trustees Theater on Broughton Street with entertainment scheduled throughout the event.
