The final walkaround.

2014 Savannah Fashion Week Show: A delight beyond fashion

Yesterday’s storms didn’t prevent the Savannah Fashion Week models from taking the stage last night in Forsyth Park.

President of Savannah Fashion Week and owner of BleuBelle Heather Burge introduced the event with an extensive list of both sponsors and supporters. The show partnered with The Savannah Academy of Arts and all of the funds received during the evening were donated to the Academy. A brief video showed the audience who and what the Academy stands for.

“We partner with those who have the same ambitions as us. I have been a judge at the Academy and their talent blew me away. We are thrilled to have Troy Allen and the Academy tonight,” said Burge.

After thanking everyone for their support, she gave the white stage over to the models.

The young women were calm and poised, their walk down the runway accompanied by upbeat remixed tunes. Each featured collection ended with the models filing out and circling the runway for a final view.

Each line possessed its own unique standard. The Red Clover line presented the current spring and upcoming summer styles: dresses, high wasted pencil skirts, floral dresses, crop tops and a specific all white blouse and shorts combination.

The young boys and girls modelling the Sara Jane Children’s Boutique line gave a delightfully unexpected performance, singing and dancing to the song “Happy” by Pharrell. And they weren’t the only ones to dance on the runway. Following Troy Allen’s edgy, costume-style collection, the designer himself danced to the DJ’s intense rap remix as the models circled in unison backstage.

A variety of patterns and designs were came from Trunk 13 Boutique, including a memorable checkered skirt. This collection also featured a different necklace begging for attention on each model. Whether it was green and styled after nature, large white beads or small, elongated pink beads, the jewelry was most definitely meant to be noticed.

In contrast to the light and fun outfits presented by many of the other designers, James Gunn brought a sense of maturity to the runway with a black matte leather dress—perfect for a black tie event. The collection opened into a set with summer-day style white jeans, flowing short sleeve shirts and, finally, the swimwear.

Finally, Zia’s models took the stage in bikinis and high heels with a wrap clinging to their jewelry like a bird. To complete the performance, the models walked to the sound of birds chirping.

“If I could describe the one word that has been put into this event, it would be community,” said Burge.
