The Black Student Association (BSA) is a special interest club focused on support and social awareness for SCAD students. BSA is a space where anyone can gather and talk about issues, whether it’s current events, their lives or ways to potentially change SCAD for the better. Meetings can also include keynote speakers, game nights and other events.
“We’re focused on gathering and uniting the Black students at SCAD,” said BSA Secretary Maya Grant, a second-year preservation design student, “We’re here to talk and vent and be a support group for students on campus.”
BSA is not exclusively for Black students, however, all students are welcome. “If you’re interested, check out our Instagram, definitely come to full-body meetings. We’re very open, and anyone is able to join. If you have any questions or hesitations about it, feel free to reach out to us,” said Grant.
The BSA is also putting on a show called “Lights, Camera, Excellence,” to showcase the wide variety of talent at SCAD from poets to dancers to musicians.
Due to COVID, interaction in the club is exclusively digital, but the BSA maintains an active Instagram as well as an active mailing list. On their Instagram, the BSA posts information about general meetings, alumni spotlights, social advocacy and more. Full-body meetings are on the second Friday of every month at 5:30 p.m. Eastern, and are held over Zoom.
