CHANGES
SCAD recently announced the end of the Men’s and Women’s basketball & cheerleading programs with the 2008-2009 season for SCAD-Savannah. The college is adding men’s and women’s golf, cross country, and tennis to SCAD-Atlanta starting in the 2009-2010 season.

The women’s basketball coach, Stephany Raines, will become assistant athletics director at the end of the season. Players attending SCAD on a scholarship with these sports will see that scholarship honored, and will be helped should they decide to transfer elsewhere.

In a statement released to the press, Athletics Director Quin Monahan said, “While the decision to phase out men’s and women’s basketball as well as cheerleading was certainly a very difficult one, I remain excited about the future of SCAD athletics and look forward to a very strong year.”

The SCAD-Savannah intramural, recreation and fitness departments will be seeing renewed emphasis. Year over year, participation in these programs increases with some 1,650 individuals participating in the 16 sports offered in 2007-2008.
