“Hijinks” imprints finals with quirk

Amidst the finals stress, Debora Oden’s Intro to Printmaking class is busy with their own personal “Hijinks.” The exhibition will feature projects by nine students of various majors, all with their own itch to etch.

Kristian Stojek, a third-year graphic design student, says the group is sad to see the end of the quarter because they’ve become a close, but “weird family.”

Students will open the exhibition tomorrow evening to bring the gloom of finals a more playful atmosphere — at least for Friday and Saturday.

“Each person in the class has their own particular style,” says Stojek, who encourages people to come out despite the stress of impending homework.

“Isaiah Jones (second-year graphic design major) has a really incredible control of line work,” says Stojek, who also suggests show-goers check out Josiah Kamer’s etchings inspired by old world drawings, and prints by third-year jewelry and objects major Maura Lenahan who uses metals and jewels to imprint her work.

The group will be setting up tomorrow afternoon in preparation for “Hijinks,” which opens at 5 p.m. on the white walls of Safe//Sound.

Stojek claims Oden’s excitement about printmaking helped capture the student’s artistic ability in a way that created a great dynamic for exploration.

Finals have been productive for other university students as well. Motion Media Design Portfolio II will have their senior showcase “PJBLMBAC” at the Museum of Modern Art Theatre this evening, and the Illustration Club is teaming up with Gallery Le Snoot Friday night for “Heads in Collision.”

Sculpture Installation Art and Design III: Time classes will have their final projects displayed at their showcase, “Install” in Habersham Hall on Friday and Saturday.

Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” is a MFA performing arts thesis project starring undergrad and grad students on Friday and Saturday nights at Mondanaro Theater.

It seems that end of the quarter stress has encouraged students to make connections with local galleries to feature their final works. Hopefully the exhibitions will start spring break with an air of accomplishment.
