The shooting of a 13-month-old child in nearby Brunswick, Ga. yesterday has resulted in the arrest of two young boys.
Though no information about the juveniles has been released, the mother of the victim described them as African-American boys, one appearing to be near the age of 15, the other younger than 10 years old.
Sherry West, a resident of the Brunswick area, was walking her child through the historic district of Brunswick in a stroller around 9 a.m. yesterday when the boys approached her.
“They said ‘I’m going to kill you if you don’t give me your money’ and I swore that I didn’t have any.”
West sat down with reporters just hours after the shooting, herself sustaining a shot to her leg.
The mother told reporters that the older boy pointed a handgun at her and said that he was going to kill her baby.
“I threw my arms over my baby and he shoves me, and then he shot my baby right in the head.”
Police were offering a $10,000 reward for the capture of the two boys and received nearly 30 tips in the last 24 hours. At 4 p.m. the Associated Press reported that the boys had been taken into custody.
UPDATE: It is being reported that the boys arrested are 17 and 15 years old.
