’Six Chix’ make SCAD improvisational history

Pepto-Bismol was the primary crowd-pleaser of the first performance in SCAD history of an all-girl improvisation group. Impersonating a “Christian Fraternity,” the ladies raised their goblets to the glory of “Pepto.” Performer Sawyer Greenberg informed the audience that “a vision of pink” would come to those who drank this holy liquid.

The troupe, “Six Chix,” took the stage at last night’s “Friday Night Improv,” hosted by the performing arts department on the fourth floor of Crites Hall.

Greenberg, Lucy Groeber, Emily Updegreff, Gabrielle Hespe, and Rebecca and Caroline Huey make up the groundbreaking group. Their confidence and comical vigor filled the room with laughter.

And that wasn’t the only thing filling up the room. Without enough seats for the amount of attendees, students placed themselves in the back, on the floor and even on each other – all to get a well-needed chuckle at the end of a busy work week.

The audience was highly impressed with the girls’ creative approach of bringing back previously performed skits in new and intelligent ways.

Not only did the girls have their punch lines close in their back pocket, but they were also on point in their timing. Each scene got a better reaction than the one before. The acts were short and concise, yet jam packed with humorous references, playing on quirky colloquial speech.

From lifting each other up while chugging a make-believe keg to “I really have to poop my pants” during a final test, these girls proved that they may just have what it takes to compete in the CIT8, the college improvisation competition happening toward the end of January.

They would be the first all-girl improvisation group to ever participate in the CIT8.

“Before we can compete there, we have to participate and win in the regional competition,” said Caroline Huey, a third year performing arts major from Plano, Texas. “We all work really well together, so I think we have a good chance.”

The girls are in the midst of training for regionals and are aiming to make a name for themselves before the competition.

The boisterous women perform every Friday night at 8 p.m. on the fourth level of Crites and welcome any and all support at these shows.

Editor’s Note: A previous version of this article said that the Friday Night Improv show and Six Chix’s weekly performances were on the second level of Crites Hall. Both are on the fourth floor of Crites.
