Stay tuned with Tristan: No clowns!

It has been pointed out that I’m neglecting one of the top television shows on TV right now: “American Horror Story.” I’m neglecting it because I haven’t watched it.

Don’t get me wrong. I love “AHS,” especially “Coven,” but I’m not sure I can watch “Freak Show” without getting nightmares. It’s because of the clown. I hate clowns. Since I’m already terrified of clowns, why would I watch a show that has a clown who actually does murder people? At the same time, I really want to watch Emma Roberts and Kathy Bates and everyone else. I guess I’m just going to have to watch the show during the day, with all the lights on and at least one door open.

No other show on TV this week dealt with clowns, thank God, but a few other strange things happened. On Tuesday’s episode of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Agent May laughed. She actually smiled and said more than 20 words throughout the episode. Granted, she was undercover, and everything about the laugh was clearly fake, but still. We now know she can at least pretend to laugh, which is an improvement on thinking she had no emotion at all.

On “Gotham,” Penguin came back from the dead. Well, the audience already knew he was alive and James Gordon knew, but now he’s back in Gotham and acting as an informant for our favorite police detective. Also, there is another side plot about a guy who stabs people in the eye and a fight for the land underneath the famed Arkham Asylum. The show keeps growing and I have yet to figure out which direction it’s going in, but I do know Penguin will play a very big role in the upcoming gang war. And James Gordon will probably not be able to stop it.

On “Scorpion,” Walter got arrested and his supreme arrogance landed him in jail with $500,000 bail. He broke out using science! Science involving the urinal cake in the drunk tank toilet, a metal button and the sleeve of a drunk man’s shirt. There was smoking involved and some chlorine fumes, but I have no idea what really happened. All in all, this episode was not one of their strongest, but it did establish everyone’s character a bit more and let viewers see some of the interactions that make the team work so well together. Even though they do get on each other’s nerves.

I finally watched “Supernatural.” I watched the first episode twice before this week’s aired. To say I’m blown away by Dean’s performance as a demon would be an understatement. For the first few scenes he just comes off as cold, but at the end of episode two the sociopath surfacing really starts surfacing. The way he describes the ‘mercy’ he gave Col, the man who’s been hunting him, gave me chills. This season is going to have some interesting alliances and, while I love Jensen Ackles as demon Dean, I hope they bring back old Dean. Soon. Although his bromance with Crowley is beyond hilarious. Crowley might replace Castiel as the best man for Dean in the series.

I’m not a big fan of most 30-minute comedies on TV, but both “Selfie” and “Manhattan Love Story” have surpassed my standards and I’ve grown to love them. “Selfie” only gets better as the series moves on. There are high jinks and hilarity in every scene, and Karen Gillian and John Cho play off of each other brilliantly. I happily wait and watch every week and am never disappointed.

“Manhattan Love Story” started off a bit shaky, but now I can’t recommend the show enough. Analeigh Tipton is a breath of fresh air on TV and I can’t get enough of her. Every character on the show is riding the edge of crazy. It’s just enough, though. Nothing is too over the top. Every episode makes me laugh. Plus, Kurt Fuller is in it and, as a huge fan of his character Woody in “Psych,” I can’t help but love him. Everyone should catch up before Tipton graces us with her presence at this year’s Savannah Film Festival.
