SCAD’s United Students Forum provides voting resources for students

Recently, the United Students Forum opened up a space at the SCAD Student Center, allowing students to register to vote and request ballots for the 2020 election.

Megan Cleary, Vice President of the United Students Forum, organized the event to give students who live in Georgia the chance to apply for a primary ballot, and for those who aren’t Georgia-natives the ability to cast an absentee ballot.

Cleary and the rest of the United Students Forum works as a voice of transparency between students and SCAD staff. This is accomplished through focus groups, and the organization going to staff to advocate for change.

“We want students to realize how important their vote is,” Cleary said. “We’re young people and we can have a say in the country.” For new students, the right and privilege to vote has become a more important issue.

“I want to participate in our democracy and express my right as an American citizen to vote,” said Anna Vick, a first-year student. “I feel good knowing that I made that choice in my life and that I contributed.”

The space is located on the third floor of the SCAD Student Center and lasts until Feb. 22. Events will take place Tuesdays from 2-6 p.m., Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 12-2 p.m.
