The Circle is a quaint store in downtown Savannah, owned by Julia Jarret and Mia Allen. Opened in Nov. of 2019, the store is located on Broad and East President Street. Their space is filled with colors and designs that make the room feel lively, yet peaceful. Jarret and Allen greet every customer with warmth and charm, and patrons of The Circle feel welcomed while browsing the store. From crystals and burn wands to handmade earrings and tie-dye bamboo socks, this store has everything for a modern, magical lifestyle.

What started as an idea to own a textile studio and showroom quickly became a store that shares Jarret and Allen’s lifestyle in Savannah. The Circle offers art from many different local artists as well as plenty of handmade goods and materials. The owners have made it known that they want to spread the love for local artists and small businesses through their store. Everything is focused on mindful living and inclusivity while maintaining a fun and funky attitude.

Jarret, a SCAD fibers alumnae, says that SCAD prepared her well for co-owning The Circle. “There’s a general mindset that’s instilled on acceptance, handicraft, the importance of manufacturing and sustainability,” Jarret said. “It’s an all-encompassing mindset that’s nurtured in the fibers department.” Jarret admits that she may not have the mindset that she has today if she had not graduated from SCAD.

The Circle is widely known for its unique stamp on the city, but more recently, it has also become known for the events that the store hosts. Locals of Savannah can attend workshops to learn how to make DIY intention candles, broomsticks and more. The store also holds workshops that teach witchcraft for beginners and partners with the local plant store, Stump, to teach the magic of plants and crystals. They even hold movie screenings to gather people around for a great time. “The workshops are our way of engaging with the community, inviting people into our space and teaching people about this lifestyle,” Allen said. The Circle’s focus on community has set it apart from other small businesses in Savannah and continues to build a relationship with its customers.

When asked what success means to them, Jarret said, “The first thing that pops into my head is comfort. I just want to be able to support myself, my community, work in an environment that other people enjoy working in and create a space that people feel comfortable in.” Allen followed up with, “Success to me is balance. It’s feeling joy both at work and at home.”

The Circle is a safe space for everyone to enjoy art, magic and fun. It has become a shining light in Savannah, providing a comforting place for people to gather and enjoy the benefits of being a part of a community.
