College Security Report: Feb. 7-19, 2012
Feb. 7
4:07 p.m. — Security responded to an elevator entrapment at Oglethorpe House. Atlantic Coast Elevator was notified, but the elevator resumed functioning prior to the techs arrival.
4:59 p.m. — Security responded to a student complaint that there was an illegally parked car at Boundary Village. Upon investigation it was discovered that the vehicle did not have a SCAD sticker, but had multiple empty beer cans in the vehicle.
Feb. 8
8:32 a.m. — Security responded to medical call at Anderson Hall involving a student who had been struck by a vehicle at an off-campus location. A residence director arranged for a cab to take the student to Memorial University Medical Center. The student could not give any information regarding the vehicle that had struck him.
9 a.m. — Security responded to medical call at Anderson Hall involving a student who was complaining of numbness in her right hand. The student stated that she did not want EMS response, but would drive herself to the SCAD Clinic.
9:08 a.m. — Security responded to a fire alarm activation on the second floor of Poetter Hall. It was determined that the alarm had been caused by maintenance working in the area. The alarm was silenced and reset.
9:41 a.m. — Security received a report of graffiti damage at Charlton Hall. Maintenance was notified of the damage.
1:25 p.m. — Security responded to a trouble alarm activation at the lobby of Weston House. Stanley Alarm Services was notified and replaced the alarm’s battery.
2:12 p.m. — Security responded to an animal complaint involving a vicious dog and multiple puppies at Montgomery Hall. Animal Control responded to the scene and removed the animals from site.
3 p.m. — Security responded to Abercorn Terrace in reference to a suspicious male walking on 62nd street and talking to himself. The individual was believed to be a vagrant and continued walking until he was past Abercorn Terrace.
6:29 p.m. — Security responded to a fire alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. The alarm was false and was reset.
7:10 p.m. — Security discovered an exterior door to River Club was unsecured. Security patrolled the building and then secured the door.
10:47 p.m. — Security received a call from a student at Abercorn Terrace requesting to speak with an on-call counselor. Security called the counselor and passed on the student’s information.
11:25 p.m. — Security responded to a minor vehicle accident at Barnard Village involving a student who had accidentally backed into another student’s parked vehicle. The owner of the other vehicle could not be located. A note was left on the vehicle for the owner to call security.
Feb. 9
1 a.m. — Security responded to the report of a suspicious person at the intersection of Fahm and Turner streets. Security kept visual contact with the individual until the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police confronted the individual on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The individual was arrested for obstruction and the police issued a report.
9:28 p.m. — The Weston booth officer smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the inside of a car as it checked in at the booth. The operations manager notified the residence director of the situation and of the name of the car owner. The residence director stated that he would dispatch a resident assistant and handle the situation.
10:28 p.m. — Security responded to a room in Turner House in reference to a possible drug policy violation. Security met the residence director at the scene and the director completed a check of the room and discovered empty beer bottles around the room. During the search a third roommate returned to the room and, when asked if there were any drugs in the room, he produced two glass pipes and a container that he said contained marijuana. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and took possession of the pipes and marijuana. No students were charged.

Feb. 12
2:50 a.m. — Security discovered a male sleeping in his vehicle at Abercorn Terrace. The male had appeared to be intoxicated and had vomited on himself. The residence director was notified and the student was escorted to his dorm.
4:44 a.m. — Security responded to Oglethorpe House to handle an intoxicated guest of two students. The two students had left the guest in the lobby area and he had moved to a couch and passed out. The unidentified male refused to leave and had vomited on the floor. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and transported the individual to his residence.
1:48 p.m. — Security responded to Turner Annex in reference to a student’s mother who was complaining that her daughter’s roommate was borrowing her daughter’s shoes and was not returning them. Upon arrival at the scene security met with the both students and the shoes were returned. The resident assistant was already on scene and was working out a room change for the student who had complained.
Feb. 13
8:10 a.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident at Montgomery Hall involving a truck that had struck the exit gate. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
4:12 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at the second floor of Jen Library. It was determined that the library staff had accidentally activated the alarm.
5:16 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. The alarm was false and was reset. Maintenance was notified.
5:50 p.m. — A SCAD student reported that she had been approached by an unknown male on Indian Street asking her if she wanted to be in a music video. The male didn’t pursue the topic when the student declined, but the student felt she should report it to security. The male had departed the area prior to security arriving.
Feb. 14
11:06 a.m. — Security responded to a fire alarm activation at Pulaski House. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm was false and it was reset.
6:55 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Ex Libris involving a student who had tripped and fallen on the interior stairs. The student declined medical attention.
11:51 p.m. — Security received a noise complaint regarding a room in Dyson House. The residence director was notified and stated that he would send an resident assistant to investigate.
Feb. 15
10 a.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that someone had struck her car while it was parked at Adler Hall. The student did not wish to file a police report.
11:15 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Crites Hall involving a student who had suffered a seizure. EMS responded to the scene. The student refused medical attention and returned to class.
12:05 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be false and was reset.
4:40 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that someone had struck her car while it was parked at Morris Hall. The student did not wish to file a police report.
4:45 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Hamilton Hall involving a student who had been struck in the head by a metal rod that was leaning on the equipment shed. The student did not want medical attention.
5 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that someone had struck her car while it was parked at Montgomery Hall. The student did not wish to file a police report.
10 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room of Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be false and was reset.
Feb. 16
4:05 a.m. — Security discovered the rear patio door at Crites Hall to be unsecured. Security patrolled the building and then secured the door.
9:29 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Boundary Hall involving a student who was experiencing chest pains. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.
9 p.m. — Security was informed that a SCAD student had taken a fire extinguisher from the dorm area at Turner House and had thrown it in the bushes in front of the dorm. Security recovered the extinguisher and returned it to its proper place.
4:30 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her vehicle had been struck while it was parked at Crites Hall causing damage to her rear bumper. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
Feb. 17
10:10 p.m. — Security responded to a room in Turner House where a SCAD student had admitted to the resident assistants on duty that he had a small amount of marijuana. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene, but did not press charges due to the small amount.
Feb. 18
9:56 a.m. — Security received a call from Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police regarding a number of resident complaints regarding SCAD buses blocking residential driveways. First Transit was notified of the issue.
10:54 a.m. — A local resident complained to security that a member of the SCAD Day tours had struck her vehicle with his and after she had honked her horn at him because he was standing in the street blocking traffic. The individual did not want a formal police report.
12:43 p.m. — Security responded to an elevator entrapment at Oglethorpe House involving one student. Security responded to the scene and the door opened when security pushed the button. Atlantic Coast Elevator was informed of the problem.
12:45 p.m. — A SCAD parent contacted security requesting to see camera footage from the cameras at Oglethorpe House. The parent stated that their daughter was pulled over by a state trooper and they believed that the footage would prove that the traffic violation did not occur. The parent was instructed on how to make the request via email.
2:40 p.m. — Security responded to a vehicle accident involving a golf cart that had struck an unoccupied AlliedBarton Security vehicle at the Equestrian Center. There were no injuries and police were not needed.
3:19 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that he had been involved in an altercation with some SCAD students at an off-campus location at 12:01 a.m. on Feb. 18. The student stated that he did not have many details, but the police had responded to the incident. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to dispatch and it was determined that the other students had accused the student of kicking in their door and had called the police. At the time of the initial report, the police separated the students and did not file any charges.
Feb. 19
8:38 p.m. — Three SCAD students notified security that they had been in Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen when they was robbed by a man. The students were uninjured and did not have any items taken from them.
10:54 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation with evacuation at Turner Annex. The Savannah Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that the alarm was false. The system was silenced and reset.
