College security report: Jan. 24-Feb. 6, 2012
Jan. 24
1:19 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at a room in Turner House involving a student who was vomiting and complaining of stomach pains. The student was driven to the hospital by her roommate.
11:42 a.m. — Security responded to a smoke detector alarm at a room of Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was false and was reset.
1:33 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at the Jen Library involving a student who was not feeling well. EMS responded to the scene and instructed the student to eat something and return to his home to rest. The student was escorted home by a friend.
10:39 p.m. — Security observed a male looking in a window at Alexander Hall and masturbating. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police were notified and responded to the scene. The male admitted to the act and was taken into custody. SCMPD issued a report.
Jan. 25
1:34 a.m. — Security responded to a smoke detector activation at room of Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was false and was reset.
10 a.m. — Security responded to a smoke detector activation at a room of Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was false and was reset.
5:30 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that her vehicle had been struck by another vehicle driven by a SCAD student while it was parked at Abercorn Terrace on Jan. 24. The students exchanged insurance information. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police were notified but stated that they would not respond as both vehicles had been moved.
Jan. 26
4:37 a.m. — Security responded to a trouble alarm activation at a room of Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was false and was reset.
4:11 p.m. — An off-campus SCAD student notified security that she was being harassed by a former student. The SCAD student stated that she had already notified the police, but wanted SCAD security to have a description of the former student and his vehicle. Security notified the on-call manager and the on-call counselor.
6:20 p.m. — Security received a call regarding a baby snake on the back steps of Adler Hall. Security identified the snake as a non-venomous yellow rat snake and removed the snake from the property.
Jan. 27
12:40 a.m. — Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police notified SCAD Security that they had arrested a SCAD student for underage drinking, open container, possession of marijuana (less than one ounce) and possession of a drug-related object.
4:30 p.m. — Security responded to vehicle accident at Boundary Village that had caused damage to the water main. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report. Physical Resources was notified of the incident and coordinated response and repair.
Jan. 28
12:49 a.m. — Security was notified that two individuals had entered the Student Center and were arguing with the security officer. The operations manager responded to the scene, but the individuals had departed prior to his arrival.
9:45 p.m. — Security responded to a smoke alarm activation at a room of Abercorn Terrace. It was determined that the alarm had been caused by a student cooking in the dorm. The alarm was silenced and reset.
Jan. 29
2:05 a.m. — The residence director notified security that there were two intoxicated student outside of a room in Dyson House. EMS responded to the scene and transported both students to Memorial University Medical Center.
6:26 a.m. — A SCAD student notified security that she was concerned that someone was banging on the front door of her off-campus residence and she did not know who would be knocking so early in the morning. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police were notified and responded to the scene. No one was present when police arrived.
10:05 a.m. — Security responded to an off-campus vehicle accident involving a SCAD graduate. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police and EMS responded to the scene and the non-SCAD individual was transported to the hospital. The police issued a report.
5:59 p.m. — Security responded to a smoke alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. The alarm was false and was reset.
6:05 p.m. — Security responded to a smoke alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. The alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room.
9:36 p.m. — Security responded to a report of two students having a physical altercation at The Spot in Turner House. Both students had departed prior to security arriving at the scene.
Jan. 30
No activity was reported.
Jan. 31
12:15 a.m. — Security received a call from a SCAD parent requesting that security check on his daughter. The parent stated that he had not spoken with her in some time and was having trouble reaching her. Security was unable to contact the student. The parent called back at 1:16 a.m. and notified security that he had reached his daughter by phone.
12:39 a.m. — A resident assistant reported a burning smell behind the 2000 and 3000 buildings of Boundary Village. Security responded to the scene and did not find anything out of the ordinary.
3:45 p.m. — Security responded to a fire alarm at the Equestrian Center. The alarm was determined to have been caused by a resident cooking popcorn.
Feb. 1
8:50 p.m. — Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police notified SCAD Security of an off-campus vehicle accident involving a SCAD student. Security met SCMPD and EMS at the scene. EMS transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center. SCMPD issued a report.
Feb. 2
7:50 p.m. — Security responded to Crites Hall in reference to a report of a student sitting in a stairwell holding an object that appeared to be a knife. Security patrolled the entire building and no one matching the description was found.
8:20 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at Oglethorpe House involving a student who had twisted his ankle. The student stated that he would have a roommate take him to the hospital to have the ankle checked.
Feb. 3
3:50 a.m. — Security received a call regarding graffiti damage discovered at Dyson House. The caller stated that he had observed the student that was creating the graffiti enter a dorm in Dyson House. Security notified the residence director and the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police and met them at the scene. Both student occupants of the room admitted that they were very intoxicated. A search of the room produced four cans of spray paint, a stencil, several bottles of liquor and a hookah. EMTs responded to the scene to check the students, but both students declined medical attention. SCMPD issued a report.
7:06 p.m. — Security discovered an exterior door to Ex Libris was unsecured. Security patrolled the building and secured the door.
10:29 p.m. — Security discovered a roll up door at River Club was unsecured. Security patrolled the building and secured the door.
Feb. 4
6:55 a.m. — A SCAD student contacted security and stated that he had been staying with a female SCAD student throughout the night and need to get back into her dorm to retrieve his personal items. The student did not have ID and stated that he could not remember when he left the dorm or how he got to his current location. Security contacted the residence director who arranged the return of his personal items.
12:20 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. The alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm and was reset.
3:56 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. The alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm and was reset.
Feb. 5
12:35 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at a room in Barnard Village involving a student who was having a seizure. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Candler Hospital.
4:45 a.m. — Security responded to a room in Weston House in reference to a student’s guest who had become unruly and was refusing to leave. The guest left the dorm when he was told that the police would be called if he refused to leave.
8:05 a.m. — Security discovered graffiti damage outside of two rooms in Dyson House. Maintenance was notified of the damage.
3:50 p.m. — Security discovered graffiti damage in the parking lot of Boundary Village. Maintenance was notified of the damage.
7:20 p.m. — Security responded to a trouble alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. The alarm was false and was reset.
Feb. 6
9 a.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room at Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was false and was reset.
11:30 a.m. — Security responded to a medical call at a room in Eckberg Hall involving a student who had fainted. EMS responded to the scene and, after checking the student, allowed her to return to class.
2:03 p.m. — A SCAD student reported to security that the spare tire to his Jeep had been stolen while his car was parked on Barnard Street. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
5:31 p.m. — Security responded to a medical call at a room in Turner House involving a student that had accidentally punctured her leg with an X-Acto knife. EMS responded to the scene, but the student declined treatment.
6:06 p.m. — Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. The alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room and was reset.
8:44 p.m. — Security responded to a phone service outage alarm activation at Wallin Hall. Upon investigating, security noticed the smell of burning wire in the data room. Maintenance was notified and an electrician was sent to check the problem.
