Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.
Here are some ways that you can celebrate Valentine’s Day, whether it be on the actual day or just sometime throughout the week, it’s never too soon or too late to share the love.
And if you are single, we have included ways to enjoy Valentine’s Day alone or with friends.
Savannah Riverboat Valentine’s Day Cruises
If you’re going steady: Take your significant other on a cruise. Savannah Riverboat Cruises offers several package deals throughout the weekend before Valentine’s Day and the day of. If you’re single: Well, a boat ride alone might be depressing, but a paddle trip out to Little Tybee might be exactly what is needed to unwind from midterms. Or, visit the Dyson swimming pool. It’s just as fun and, who knows, you might make a few new friends.
Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a bang
If you’re going steady: Go to couple’s night at the local gun range, Mission Essential Inc., on Feb. 15 from noon to 6 p.m. After a nice, romantic Valentine’s Day, it may be time for a little friendly competition and target practice. On couple’s night, if you already have a firearm, you will get one free target and get to go out on the range for free.
If you don’t have a weapon, you still get one free target and get to go out on the range for free, but you will have to pay around $7 to rent a weapon.
“It’s fun. It’s a stress reliever,” said Jesica Works-Cassell, the Hinesville location manager. “[The couples] leave out of here smiling.”
The couples often make it a competition.
“They say ‘No, I’m gonna out shoot you,’ ‘No, I’m gonna out shoot you,’” she said, “But, we say the female always wins.”
So ladies, if you’re up for a little competition, definitely go to couple’s night, and if you’re not, there’s always ladies night every Thursday.
If you’re single: Relish in a recent break-up with a bang. What’s better than tweeting about a horrible, heart-wrenching separation than unloading round after round on a zombie target?
Get down to some dirty Dubstep in honor of Valentine’s Day
If you’re going steady: On Feb. 18, end your Valentine’s Day week by letting loose at the second annual Dirty Dirty Dubstep Valentine’s Day Dance. The dance will be in the Oglethorpe House ballroom from 9 p.m. to midnight.
Blake Johnson, a third-year sound design major, explained how he came up with the idea for the dance in an email:
“I came up with the idea over winter break last year,” he said. As a self-proclaimed fan of electro anda dance music he realized dubstep was starting to become really popular.
“Dubstep is commonly referred to as grungy, dirty, nasty, and I liked the idea of mixing that concept with Valentine’s Day, something polar opposite,” he said.
This year, the dance is sure to be better than before, according to Johnson.
“O-house Ballroom is a much better space to use, and our sound system this year is bringing a lot more thump,” he said. “On top of that, were looking to have some lights in the mix on top of live projections by YOPABLO, which I’m super excited about.”
If you’re single: Play your favorite band as loud as possible and have a solo dance party in your apartment. Invite your roommates, or neighbors even, to join in on the festivities. There’s always a reason to throw down, and being single is one of them.
