Tucked strategically at the south end of Forsyth Park is the eccentric yet elegant Brighter Day Natural Foods Market. While seemingly price-friendly, in actuality it is only for the braver of wallets. However, what it lacks in affordability is made up for by its aesthetic collection of organic, well-manicured products that are sure to help you live longer. What’s a few extra bucks for a few more years of life anyway?

Now, I’m not advocating for you to burn all your pocket change on a visually appalling organic can of sardines harvested from a pristine glacier lake in the Alps, or any other trendy product they might carry. I am, however, advocating for local business and the continued support of the flourishing Savannah community.

The local Kroger is a good, price-friendly choice when it comes to buying groceries; nevertheless, I believe it would be beneficial to refrain from handing over all our money to the corporate overlords. Instead, I encourage you to disperse a little bit into the city you live in, giving it back to the people who make up our wonderful community.

Perhaps for one dollar more, buy organic, sustainably farmed milk from the mountains in north Georgia or pick a few vibrant fruits and vegetables grown somewhere the word “pesticides” is only found in science books.

By no means am I suggesting you buy your week of groceries at Brighter Day — you’ll walk out broke. All I’m saying is: pick up a few items here and there to help support a local staple.
