Recent Redos

SCAD has been quietly reshaping some of its most familiar spaces over the summer, turning them into places that feel more intuitive, connected and creatively charged. Two of the most recent transformations sit at the heart of campus life: Eckburg Hall and Jen Library.
At Eckburg Hall, home base for fashion and accessory design, the updates are subtle but thoughtful. The new fabric library has quickly become a go-to spot for students looking to get hands-on with material before making larger orders. Rows of textile swatches now line the space, bridging that crucial gap between inspiration and production. What used to be the accessory design classroom has been reimagined into this resource hub, with the class itself moving to Number Nine. Nearby, the old resource room now serves as a clean, functional conference area — perfect for critiques, team meetings and long conversations about work that spill beyond the classroom.
Across campus, the lower level of Jen Library has taken on new energy with the arrival of Press, a coffee shop that’s quickly become part of the creative rhythm of Broughton Street. Tucked behind Gutstein Gallery, Press connects two central creative spaces. It’s accessible from both sides and serves crafted coffee, made-to-order drinks and light meals. It’s the kind of spot that naturally fills with sketchbooks, laptops and post-lecture chatter.
Press has also become a campus favorite for a practical reason: it accepts meal swipes. That small detail has turned it into a steady hub throughout the day, drawing in everyone from early risers with 8 a.m. classes grabbing their first cup to late-afternoon regulars refueling between studios. Meanwhile, over at Montgomery Hall, new updates have brought fresh energy of their own. The refreshed hallways and lobby spaces now showcase a rotating selection of student work.
Together, these renovated spaces reflect SCAD’s larger design philosophy: constantly evolving, creating places that don’t just support creativity but actively invite it.
