College Security Report: March 19-28, 2010

March 19

8 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike was missing from Turner Annex. She stated that she noticed that the bike was missing on March 15, but decided to wait until after break to report the missing bike. The student stated that she did not want the police notified.

8:10 p.m.— Sonitrol alarm company notified security that there were multiple motion detector alarms being activated at the Trustees Theater. Security responded to the scene and the outer door of the building appeared to be secure. The security director was notified and had a locksmith respond to the scene. Upon the arrival of the locksmith, an interior patrol was conducted and all appeared normal. The building was re-secured and the alarm was reset.

10:27 p.m.— Security was notified that there was possibly an unauthorized student in a room in Turner House. The caller, who remained anonymous, stated that a non-student had been entering Turner House through a window in a dorm room. Security notified the resident assistant who responded to the scene. There was no answer at the room in question, and the room appeared to be unoccupied and the lights were out. Extra patrols of Turner House were ordered.

March 20

12:01 a.m.— Security discovered graffiti on the outside of a Dyson House room. The graffiti was placed on the maintenance list to be scheduled for removal.

12:06 a.m.— Security discovered graffiti on the outside of Dyson House on the wall facing Dyson Field. The graffiti was placed on the maintenance list to be scheduled for removal.

2:38 a.m.— A security manager responded to the Turner Booth in reference to an intoxicated individual attempting to enter Turner House without a SCAD ID. The student had been denied entry because she had no ID and her name did not appear on the student roster. The student started screaming and cursing at the security officer. She then attempted to use an ID belonging to another student to enter Turner and was again stopped and was told that security would contact a resident assistant to verify whether she was an active student. The resident assistant responded to the scene and confirmed that she was an active student. The student had not been able to be found on the student roster due to the fact that she was spelling her last name incorrectly due to being intoxicated.

10:50 p.m.— A non-SCAD individual reported to security that a friend of his, a SCAD student, was concerned that her roommate was allowing her boyfriend to stay in their room in Turner House. The man stated that the boyfriend was a fellow SCAD student. The man stated that his friend had asked him to report the violation because she did not want her roommate to know that she had turned her in to security. Security notified the residence director of the incident.

March 21

1:07 a.m.— Security observed police activity in the back parking lot of Old Arch and responded to the scene. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police had discovered a submerged vehicle in the canal area under the Turner Bridge. The police discovered that the car belonged to a SCAD student, and that the driver’s side window had been broken and the radio taken from the car prior to it being pushed into the canal. The student stated that she had been parking the vehicle in the Old Arch lot every day at around 3:30 p.m. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police issued a report.

2:45 a.m.— Security was notified that an unauthorized male had been able to gain entry into Turner House by using a falsified student ID. A SCAD student stated that a man was bragging that he had been able to enter Turner House by jumping the wall and coming through the window of a dorm room. He also stated that he had been able to make a fake ID using his picture and an old SCAD ID. The student stated that he had invited the man to another Turner room while he notified security. Security notified the residence director and Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police, who both responded to the scene. The police issued a ban form to the man and advised him that he would be arrested if he returned to any SCAD buildings.

6 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from Oglethorpe House. The student stated that he had locked the bike to a meter pole on Oglethorpe Street at 6 p.m. March 20. The bike was missing when he returned at 6 p.m. the next day, but the lock was lying on the ground. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report. The bike was not registered with SCAD security.

March 22

noon— A SCAD student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from a bike rack at Turner House. The student stated that he had last seen the bike prior to the start of spring break, and that the bike was gone when he returned. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

5:05 p.m.— Security observed a SCAD student give his ID to another student in an attempt to have the second individual enter Anderson Hall using the first student’s ID. Security stopped the second individual, but the man left the site without giving any information.

6 p.m.— A SCAD student at Boundary Village reported to the residence director that he was being harassed and assaulted by his roommate, another SCAD student, since the beginning of the winter quarter. The residence director requested security to respond to the scene. Upon arrival at the scene the student stated that he did not wish to change rooms, but wanted to file charges with the police. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene, but did not issue a report due to the fact that the incident had not occurred that day.

7:37 p.m.— Security responded to a smoke detector activation at Pulaski House. It was determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in her dorm. The alarm was silenced and reset.

8:30 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that when she returned from break she found her mailbox was unsecured at Oglethorpe House. She stated she was concerned because she was expecting a check and that she was positive that she locked the box prior to break. Another mailbox was also found to be unsecured.

8:40 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his bike was missing from Dyson House. The student stated that he locked the bike to a ramp two days ago and that the bike was missing when he returned to get it. The student did not wish to file a police report.

March 23

9:49 p.m.— Security responded to a smoke detector alarm at a room in Abercorn Terrace. The alarm was determined to be false, and there was no smoke or haze present. The alarm was silenced.

10 p.m.— A resident assistant notified security that she had just approached a man in the Turner House courtyard that she did not recognize. The man stated that he was a transfer student that had just arrived from the Greyhound bus station, but he could not produce an ID. Security responded to the scene, but the resident assistant had let the student go about his business and the individual could not be found.

March 24

3:20 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her cell phone, MP3 player and radio adapter had been stolen from her vehicle while it was parked at the rear of Fahm Hall. She stated that she had accidentally left her passenger window down while she was in class. Another student stated that they had seen someone sitting in the car, but had no description. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

10:55 p.m.— A residence director requested security response to Pulaski House for a medical call. A SCAD student stated that she was not feeling well and that she might have food poisoning. The student declined EMS and stated that she would have a friend drive her to Memorial University Medical Center.

March 25

2:50 a.m.— Security discovered graffiti on the arch at Old Arch. Security took pictures of the graffiti and placed a work order for removal.

March 26

2:30 a.m.— Security responded to multiple trouble alarms at Turner House. Security patrolled the area and confirmed that all of the alarms were false. Sonitrol alarm company was notified of the incident and a work order was placed to have the system checked.

7 a.m.— A SCAD parent contacted security and stated that she had received a call from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police because they had arrested someone who was in possession of her daughter’s cell phone and other items. The parent was concerned because her daughter was supposed to have left campus on a field trip at 8 a.m. March 25. Security called the on-call manager who stated that they would call the parent.

3:30 p.m.— Security responded to smoke detector activation at Gulfstream Center. Security met the Savannah Fire Department on the scene and it was determined that the alarm was false. The system was silenced and reset by security.

5:58 p.m.— Security responded to an intrusion alarm at Kiah Hall. Security met the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police at the scene and it was determined that the building was secure and that the alarm was false.

7:15 p.m.— A resident assistant notified security that a SCAD student had reported that her boyfriend, another SCAD student, physically abused her at his off-campus residence between 12:01 a.m. and 11 a.m. March 26. The student had already notified the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police and the dean of students at SCAD. The resident assistant stated that he would notify the on-call manager of the incident.

March 27

3:27 a.m.— Security responded to a call box activation at Old Arch. Security responded to the scene, but found no one in the vicinity. The alarm was determined to be false.

4:05 a.m.— Security discovered graffiti on the inside door of the Oglethorpe House elevator. The graffiti was placed on the maintenance list to be scheduled for removal.

11:30 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from Oglethorpe House. The student stated that she had secured the bike to the stair-rail at Oglethorpe House at 7 p.m. March 26, and that the bike was gone when she returned at 11 a.m. March 27. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

2:04 p.m.— Security responded to a smoke detector activation at a unit in Abercorn Terrace. Security determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm. The alarm was silenced and reset.

11:37 p.m.— A SCAD parent contacted security and stated that she was concerned about her son because she had not heard from him since Thursday. Security responded to the student’s off-campus residence, but was not able to contact the student and the student’s vehicle was not at the off-campus location. Security promised the parent that they would periodically check the off-campus location and advise her if her son returned to that location. At 1:48 a.m., the parent contacted security and notified them that she had learned that her son was on a camping trip.

March 28

2:30 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from Boundary Hall. The student stated that she had locked the bike to the Boundary Hall bike rack on March 26, and that the bike was gone when she returned at 2:30 p.m. March 28. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report. The bike was not registered with SCAD security.

7 p.m.— Security discovered the front entrance of Granite Steps was unsecured. A patrol of the interior was conducted and everything appeared normal. The door was then secured by security.
