Savannah Botanical Garden in Bloom

My roommate and I almost missed the garden entirely. Only a single green sign indicated that we were in the right place. When we stepped out of the car, a light rain shower greeted us, and my camera caught a few drops as well. Accustomed to the New York Botanical Garden, I expected Savannah’s to be average.

To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement.

The botanical garden was entirely outdoors with not a single greenhouse in sight. The rain gave off a fresh, earthy scent, and droplets trickled off the vibrant flowers. Birds were chirping, and although birdhouses dotted the paths, they never graced me with their presence. Frogs croaked, and raccoons giggled in the distance. The garden was alive. I felt like I was in nature, not a man-made display of uprooted plants.

However, the gardens are only one part of the experience. Just past the flowers and pond, there’s a nature trail winding through the woods. The Savannah Botanical Garden isn’t just a garden but an exploration of nature in its entirety.

If you ever have some free time, be sure to pay it a visit. Whether you go with friends or by yourself, it’s a wonderful place to explore. Best of all, admission is free, so all you need is a camera to capture the beauty displayed right here in Savannah.
