College Security Report: Feb. 19-March 2, 2010

Feb. 19

9:05 a.m.— A SCAD employee reported to security that he had accidentally struck another vehicle at Wallin Hall. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

time unknown— A SCAD parent notified security that his daughter had been physically assaulted by her boyfriend and that her boyfriend had been arrested. Security took the parent’s name and number and passed on all information to the on-call manager.

6:27 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from the Turner courtyard. The student stated that he had locked the bike to a tree outside of a room, and that the bike was stolen sometime between Feb. 17 and Feb. 19. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

8:55 p.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Trustees Theater involving a SCAD student. The student stated that she had fainted while attending a function at the theater. EMS responded to the scene, but the student refused treatment.

Feb. 20

1:14 a.m.— A resident assistant reported to security that a red GMC Jimmy had been parked at Dyson House for an extended period of time with its alarm going off, and he requested that the vehicle be towed. The vehicle did not have current parking decals and was reported to have been there for at least two days. Security had Hook Towing remove the vehicle.

4:20 a.m.— Security observed a student exit Oglethorpe House by the right rear fire door exit to smoke a cigarette. A supervisor responded to the scene and secured the door. The student had already departed the scene and could not be found.

3:30 p.m.— A resident assistant reported to security that she had found a knife in the Dyson House laundry. The knife, which had a two-inch blade, was collected by security and taken to the security office.

3:42 p.m.— Security responded to an elevator entrapment at Turner House. Atlantic Coast Elevator responded to the scene and the students were removed from the elevator at 4:20 p.m.

reported 9:20 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that the rear driver’s side window of her vehicle had been broken while her vehicle had been parked at Turner Annex. The student stated that she had parked her vehicle at 10 p.m. Feb. 19, and that she noticed the damage when she returned to her vehicle at 10 a.m. Feb. 20. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

Feb. 21

12:45 a.m.— A residence director reported to security that the Pulaski House front entrance door was malfunctioning. Security placed an officer at the door until repairs could be made in the morning.

1:30 a.m.— A SCAD student called dispatch and requested to speak with the on-call counselor. Security took all of the student’s information and passed the call along to the counselor.

5:57 p.m.— Security responded to a smoke detector activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security determined that the alarm had been caused by a student cooking in the dorm. The alarm was silenced and reset.

Feb. 22

12:06 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation with evacuation at Turner House. Security met the Savannah Fire Department on site and it was determined that the alarm was a water pump alarm. Maintenance, the SCAD environmental safety and health manager and International Fire and Safety were notified. The alarm was silenced and reset at 2 a.m.

1:01 a.m.— Security responded to a trouble alarm at the panel of Eichberg Hall. A foot patrol of the area was conducted and all appeared normal. The alarm was silenced and reset.

7:43 a.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Café SCAD. A SCAD student stated that she was having trouble breathing. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

4:39 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his front bicycle tire had been stolen from his bike at Turner House. The student did not wish to involve the police.

8:08 p.m.— Security responded to an elevator entrapment at Turner House. Atlantic Coast Elevator responded to the scene and the students were removed from the elevator.

Feb. 23

12:57 p.m.— Security responded to an elevator entrapment located in the back of Turner House. Atlantic Coast Elevator responded to the scene and the student was removed from the elevator at 1:10 p.m.

occurred sometime between 1 a.m. and noon— A SCAD student reported to security that his car had been stolen from E. Duffy Street. The student stated that he had parked his vehicle at 1 a.m. Feb. 23, and did not notice his vehicle missing until 7:15 p.m. the same day. The student stated his roommate noticed his vehicle was missing at approximately noon on Feb. 23. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

Feb. 24

12:08 a.m.— Security received a call from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police in reference to a SCAD student who was transported to Memorial University Medical Center. The student had leaped out of his third floor apartment window on E. Gordon St. The student’s parents were contacted, and the police issued a report.

8:29 a.m.— Security responded to alarm activation and evacuation at Turner House. Security met with the Savannah Fire Department on site and it was determined that the alarm was false. The fire department discovered that there was a water leak coming from the water valve. The Savannah Fire Department cleared the fire alarm and students were able to return into the building. The SCAD safety director arrived with International Fire.

9:54 a.m.— Security responded to theft of a box of chicken, valued at $115, from SCAD Café. The operations manager spoke with the kitchen manager and kitchen director. Both employees stated that they left the site at 7 p.m. Feb. 23, and assured the operations manager that the freezer was locked by 11:30 p.m. The box of chicken was missing when they arrived to work on Feb. 24. Both employees declined to contact the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police.

10:46 a.m.— Security responded to call from Keys Hall about an unknown person who was on top of the roof of the building. Upon investigation it was determined that a non-SCAD individual had climbed on the top of roof. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police were notified and removed the man from the building. The man was transported to Memorial University Medical Center.

5:20 p.m.— A SCAD professor notified security about an ill student in Arnold Hall. The student had fainted and hit his head. The student regained consciousness and refused medical treatment. He had departed the area before the operations manager could arrive.

5:30 p.m.— A SCAD professor notified security about an act of vandalism involving his truck. The professor parked his truck at 9 a.m. and returned to his vehicle at 4:30 p.m. Upon his return at 4:30 p.m., he discovered his driver-side rear window was broken by a rock, which was laying on the backseat. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police were contacted and issued a report.

Feb. 25

12:05 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at the Trustees Theater. Sonitrol alarm company called dispatch and stated that the alarm was a test alarm and that response could be canceled.

12:30 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at two rooms in Barnard Village. Security met with the Savannah Fire Department on site and it was determined that the alarm was false and the system was silenced and reset.

1:40 p.m.— Security discovered graffiti on the sculpture in the courtyard between Kiah Hall and Eichberg Hall. Pictures were taken of the graffiti and a work order was placed for clean up.

7:02 p.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Hamilton Hall. A SCAD professor stated that he wasn’t watching where he was going and he tripped over some wooden braces behind a backdrop causing him to fall and injure his left wrist and hip. EMS responded to the scene and transported the professor to Memorial University Medical Center.

Feb. 26

1:05 p.m.— Security responded to an accident at Habersham Street near Habersham Hall. A SCAD student had been struck by a police vehicle while crossing the street after leaving Habersham Hall. EMS responded to the scene, but the student stated that his injuries were minor, just scrapes and bruises. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police issued a report.

7:05 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from Eichberg Hall. She stated that she had chained the bike near the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard entrance of Eichberg Hall at 3 p.m., and that the bike was gone when she returned at 6:45 p.m. The student did not want security to notify the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police.

11:30 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to a resident assistant that she had been inappropriately touched by another student at an off-campus party. Security responded to the Weston House and dispatched the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police. After police spoke with the student, they contacted the other student involved, who also resided at Weston. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police issued a report, and told the first student that she could file a formal complaint if she wished to do so. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police allowed the second student to return to his room. The first student stated that she did not wish to speak with the on-call counselor.

Feb. 27

9:11 a.m.— A SCAD parent called dispatch and stated that she had not heard from her son in a few days and was concerned. Security found the student in his room and asked him to call his mother.

5:05 p.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Club SCAD. A SCAD student stated that he had dropped a weight on his foot. The student did not want EMS response, but wanted to go to Urgent Care. The on-call manager was notified and arranged a cab ride for the student.

11:27 p.m.— Security responded to a medical at Turner House. A SCAD student stated that she slipped and fell coming down the south stairwell at Turner House. The student did not want EMS response, but stated that she might go to the hospital with a fellow student.

Feb. 28

12:50 p.m.— Security responded to a vehicle accident between a SCAD student-driven vehicle and a SCAD bus. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report. No injuries were reported.

March 1

5 p.m.— Security responded to a call from the SCAD security director asking for assistance at a room in Dyson House. Security met the director at the scene and stood by as he conducted a search of the room due to a tip that he had received. The room search uncovered several policy violations including a marijuana grinder with residue, marijuana and wrapping papers. The smoke detector in the room had also been covered with a bag. At 5:35 p.m., the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police arrived on site. After being unable to contact the students that reside in the dorm, the officers took the drugs and paraphernalia and departed the scene. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police issued a report.

March 2

5:25 a.m.— Security discovered the front door to Harris Hall was unsecured. Security was unable to secure the door. A security officer was posted at the entrance until repairs could be made to the lock.

8:15 a.m.— Security stopped a man at the entrance to Adler Hall who was attempting to enter with student ID belonging to someone else. The individual stated that the student gave him the ID so that he could enter the building. Security was able to contact the student when she exited the building after class and explained the policy to her. The student refused to cooperate and would not give any information other than her name.

9:57 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation with evacuation at Weston House. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm was false and the system was silenced and reset.

11:42 a.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Arnold Hall. A SCAD student stated that she had fainted in class. EMS responded to the scene and after checking the student’s vitals they allowed her to return to class.

3:58 p.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Bergen Hall. A SCAD student stated that she had fainted in class. EMS responded to the scene and after checking the student’s vitals they allowed her to return to class.

8:50 p.m.— Security responded to a smoke detector alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm. The system was silenced and reset.
