College Security Report: Feb. 12-18, 2010
Feb. 12
1:40 p.m.— Security was notified of an off-campus vehicle accident at Boundary and Jones streets involving a SCAD student. Security responded to the scene and both drivers stated that they did not wish police or EMS response.
10:25 p.m.— A SCAD student requested to speak to an on-call counselor, and stated that she wanted to speak with someone because she was sexually assaulted off-campus by a co-worker on Dec. 9. Security contacted the on-call counselor and the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police. The police and the on-call counselor responded to the scene and spoke with the student. No report was issued.
Feb. 13
4:50 p.m.— Security responded to a smoke detector activation at Abercorn Terrace. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm had been caused by a student taking a shower. The alarm was silenced and reset.
Feb. 14
12:45 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that when she returned to her room in Turner House, she noticed that someone messed up her room and left the lights and water running. Nothing was missing from the room and the student did not want police response.
2:29 a.m.— Security was notified by the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police that there had been a fatal car accident involving a SCAD student. Security notified the on-call counselor with all the information.
5:40 p.m.— Security responded to a small fire in a toaster at a room in Abercorn Terrace. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene. The fire had already been extinguished by the students using a fire extinguisher. There was no damage to the room and the fire had been limited to the toaster.
7:19 p.m.— Security discovered the front door to Smithfield Cottage was unsecured. Security performed a patrol of the premises and secured the door.
Feb. 15
7:48 a.m.— Security responded to a medical call at a room in Dyson House. The on-call counselor requested transport for themselves and a SCAD student to Memorial University Medical Center.
10:45 a.m.— Security responded to a vehicle accident in the Hamilton Hall parking lot. A SCAD student stated that he accidentally hit a black Audi belonging to another SCAD student while was driving a U-Haul truck in the Hamilton Hall lot. the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
1:10 p.m.— Security responded to a call box alarm activation at Boundary Village. No one was in the vicinity of the call box.
3:20 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that there was $50 missing from her purse. She stated that she had left her purse in the Arnold Hall lab for 15 minutes while she went to the restroom. She noticed that the money was missing when she returned.
5:20 p.m.— Security responded to a medical call at a room in Turner House after receiving a call from 911 dispatch stating that they had received a report of a possible suicide attempt. Security met the residence director and EMS at the scene. The student was transported to Memorial University Medical Center by EMS.
5:53 p.m.— Security responded to a smoke detector activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm. The alarm was silenced and reset.
9:30 p.m.— Security responded to a fire door alarm activation at Eichberg Hall. Security silenced the alarm and secured the door.
Feb. 16
5:19 a.m.— Security discovered graffiti on the second column in the front of Jen Library. Security took pictures and placed the item on the maintenance log.
10:30 a.m.— Security responded to a medical call at a room in Eckburg Hall. A SCAD student stated that she was experiencing stomach pains and was feeling ill. EMS responded to the scene and instructed the student to rest and drink fluids. The student returned to her dorm room.
Feb. 17
8:54 a.m.— A maintenance clean-up person informed the security officer at Eichberg Hall that he had found a small bag containing what appeared to be a drug pipe. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and disposed of the item. The police issued a report.
1:30 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation with evacuation at Jen Library. Security met with Savannah Fire Department on-site and it was determined that the alarm was false. The system could not be reset and a work order was placed with Sonitrol alarm company to have the system checked.
5:36 p.m.— Security responded to a call box activation at Old Arch. Security determined that the alarm was false and that there was no one in the vicinity of the call box.
5:43 p.m.— Security responded to a call box activation at the Boundary Village. Security determined that the alarm was false and that there was no one in the vicinity of the call box.
7:58 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that he had been mugged by two men while walking on 49th Street. The student stated that he had left Montgomery Hall at 7:40 p.m. and was walking back to his dorm at Barnard Village when two men approached him from across the street. One of the men grabbed the student from behind and the other man emptied his pockets taking his wallet, credit cards, cell phone, SCAD ID, iPod and keys. The men also took his bookbag with all of his SCAD books and projects. The men then fled the scene on foot. No weapon was used. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
Feb. 18
10:10 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her car had been damaged while parked at the Dyson Hall lab. The student stated that she had parked her car at 10 a.m., and that when she returned at 10:10 a.m. she noticed that her right rear window had been punctured in three places. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
11:10 a.m.— A SCAD parent called security and asked for an update regarding an incident on Feb. 13 when his daughter’s room at Turner House had been ransacked. The on-call manager was contacted and stated that he would call the parent.
10:24 p.m.— Security responded to a room in Dyson House in reference to a noise complaint. Security and the resident assistants spoke with a SCAD student requested that he turn down the music in his room.
10:53 p.m.— The on-call counselor requested that security respond to a medical call at a room in Barnard Village for a student suffering from severe depression. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.
