College Security Report: Feb. 1-11, 2010
Feb. 1
10:45 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his vehicle had been hit while parked on Indian Street in front of Hamilton Hall causing damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle. Another SCAD student stated that he had witnessed a white truck strike the vehicle. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
Feb. 2
4:15 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that someone had stolen a computer accessory from her room in Turner House. She stated that she had left the item under her desk when she left for break on Nov. 19, and that she noticed the item missing on Jan. 2 when she returned to campus. The student stated that she waited a month to report the item missing because she wanted to contact family members to make sure she didn’t take it home and leave it there. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
4:56 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from the bike rack from Club SCAD. He stated that he had last seen the bike on Jan. 28 and that he noticed it missing on Feb. 2. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
Feb. 3
9 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department on site and determined that the alarm was false and caused by a system trouble alarm. Security silenced and reset the system.
10:45 p.m.— A residence director requested the assistance of security at a room in Barnard Village. Two resident assistants stated that they had smelled marijuana at the room. Upon investigation it was determined that no students were in the room. The room was searched by the residence director when the students returned with negative results.
Feb. 4
10:55 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from the bike rack at Norris Hall. She stated that she had secured the bike at 8 a.m. Feb. 4, and that the bike was gone when she returned at 10:35 a.m. The student did not want to file a police report.
11:15 a.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Pepe Hall. A SCAD student stated that she was feeling lightheaded and had nausea. EMS responded to the scene and evaluated the student. It was determined that the student could get a ride home with friends.
5:20 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that he had found a scrape on the driver side right rear wheel-well of his car. He believed that the damage occurred while his car was parked at Gulfstream between 2 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. Feb. 4. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
11:03 p.m.— Security was notified of a power outage at two rooms in Pulaski House. Maintenance was notified and responded to the scene to restore power.
11:03 p.m.— A residence director reported to security that there was a cracked window at a room in Dyson House. Maintenance responded to the scene and stated that there was no immediate safety hazard and that they would arrange to have the window repaired.
Feb. 5
6 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that she had lost her SCAD ID while riding her bike. She was instructed on how to get a new ID.
8:57 p.m.— Security responded to a smoke detector alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department on site and it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm. The alarm was silenced and reset by security.
Feb. 6
2:45 a.m.— Security responded to the Barnard Village gate where non-SCAD individual was attempting to gain entry to the premises. The man stated that he had been asked by a female friend to pick up her BMW 535I at a gated community near Whitaker and Victory. He stated that he did not have a contact number for his friend and he would not provide the name for his friend. The man was informed of the SCAD visitor policy and then he left the site.
10 a.m.— Security responded to a medical call at the corner of Bull Jones streets. A SCAD student stated that he had been struck by a car while crossing Jones Street traveling towards Charlton Street. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene, but the student stated that he did not wish to file a report and that he did not need EMS response. The student returned to the security office at 12:15 p.m. stating that his bike was damaged and that he was now experiencing hip pain. The student’s parents also called dispatch asking to speak with a college representative. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and told the student that he would have to file a personal accident report as they could not do a formal report after the fact. The parent’s number was forwarded to the on-call manager.
6:49 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that the passenger side mirror had been stolen off of his vehicle while it was parked at Eichberg Hall. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
9 p.m.— Security responded to a smoke detector alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department on site and it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm. The alarm was silenced and reset by security.
Feb. 7
4:38 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his car had been vandalized while parked at Oglethorpe House. The student stated that he had parked his car behind Oglethorpe house two weeks ago and that when he returned to the vehicle this afternoon he noticed that the windshield wipers had been bent back. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
4:59 p.m.— Security was notified by First Transit that there had been a bicycle accident at Barnard and West Liberty streets involving a SCAD student. Security responded to the scene and dispatched EMS and the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police. The student declined EMS response and was transported to her dorm by security. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police issued a report.
6:30 p.m.— Security responded to a trouble alarm at Granite Hall. A patrol was conducted and nothing out of the ordinary was discovered. The alarm was silenced, but could not be reset. Sonitrol alarm company was notified and indicated that they would place a work order to have the system checked.
7:30 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from back of Dyson House. She stated that she had secured the bike behind Dyson about a week ago. She also stated that she would notify Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police in the morning and call dispatch when she had a report.
Feb. 8
8:10 a.m.— Security responded to a medical call at a room in Turner House. A SCAD student stated that she had been vomiting all night. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.
6:08 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that two of her oil paintings were missing from a room in Anderson Hall. The student stated that she had last seen the paintings during the last week in January and noticed the paintings were missing on Feb. 2. She indicated that she would notify Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police after class and then provide security with the report.
7:50 p.m.— Security responded to a smoke detector activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm was caused by steam from the shower. The alarm was silenced and reset.
8:15 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her debit card was missing and that she believes that she may have left it at the CVS pharmacy. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
9 p.m.— Security responded to a smoke detector activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and determined that the alarm was caused by a student using a blow dryer in the room. Security silenced and reset the alarm.
Feb. 9
7:30 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his bike was missing from the bike rack at Forsyth Hall. He stated that he had secured the bike at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 8, and that the bike was missing when he returned the next morning at 7:30 a.m. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
8:05 p.m.— Security responded to a vehicle accident in the Anderson Hall parking lot between a SCAD student and a SCAD professor. Both parties declined Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police response.
8:05 p.m.— Security responded to a smoke detector activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security met the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and it was determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm. The alarm was silenced and reset.
Feb. 10
7:50 a.m.— A SCAD student attempted to gain entry to Crites Hall using her roommate’s old ID. The student stated that she had lost her ID and did not have time to get a new one, so she decided to use her roommate’s old ID. She was instructed on how to obtain a new ID. Security confiscated the ID that belongs to her roommate.
2 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her car had been broken into while it was parked on River Street near Alexander Hall. The student stated that she had parked the car at 2 p.m. Feb. 10, and that she noticed that the passenger window had been broken when she returned to the car 10 minutes later. She claimed that her purse was missing, but that she did not want the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police notified.
3 p.m.— Security responded to a medical at Club SCAD. A SCAD student stated that she was walking by an elliptical machine when her foot got caught in the machine and she fainted. EMS responded to the scene and after evaluating the student they allowed her to depart the scene with her sister. EMS stated that the student did not appear to have any injuries and that she probably fainted due to not having eaten.
4:45 p.m.— Security discovered graffiti on the two tan outbuildings at Eichberg Hall. Security notified maintenance for clean-up.
Feb. 11
1:02 a.m.— Security responded to a smoke detector activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security met with the Savannah Fire Department at the scene and determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. Security silenced and reset the alarm.
8:40 a.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Wallin Hall. A SCAD student had told the department head at Wallin that she had been in a car accident off campus, but that she did not wish to file a report. The department head notified security, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police and EMS anyway. Security met with the police and EMS at the scene, but the student refused to have a report done and would not give any information to the police.
12:35 p.m.— Security responded to a vehicle accident at Montgomery Hall. A security officer observed a tractor-trailer strike the gate at Montgomery Hall causing damage to the gate at the adjoining wall. Pictures were taken of the damage and a facilities manager was notified and responded to the scene.
