College Security Report: Sept. 16-20, 2009

Sept. 16

12:25 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that someone had hit his vehicle while it was parked at Abercorn Terrace. A fellow student stated that he had witnessed the incident and that a female had left a room at Abercorn Terrace, had entered a white two-door vehicle with Pennsylvania tags and struck the vehicle as she was backing up, causing a dent to the passenger side of the vehicle. The student did not want police response.

4:53 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her wallet had either been lost or stolen. She stated that she had last seen her wallet while she was at Fahm Hall at 11:50 a.m. and that she noticed it missing 10 minutes later when she got to her dorm at Turner House. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

7:01 p.m.— Security responded to a call box alarm activation at Old Arch. Security patrolled the area, but no one was in the vicinity of the box.

7:15 p.m.— Sonitrol alarm company notified security of a misreading on a test to the rear door of Clinard Hall. Security was dispatched to the scene, but Sonitrol called back and stated that the system had been rechecked and all was normal.

8:35 p.m.— Security responded to a Dyson House room in response to a medical call regarding a student having an allergic reaction to medication. Security met with the student who stated that she was not feeling well and wanted EMS response. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.

8:40 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his wallet was missing and that he wished to file a police report. He stated that he may have lost the wallet at J.O.’s Diner or anywhere between there and Dyson House. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

8:46 p.m.— Security responded to a call box alarm activation at Old Arch. Security patrolled the area, but no one was in the vicinity of the box.

8:50 p.m.— Security responded to a call box alarm activation at Boundary Village. Security patrolled the area, but no one was in the vicinity of the box.

10:05 p.m.— Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police notified security that they had arrested a SCAD student at his off-campus residence on a domestic violence charge. Security notified the on-call manager of the incident.

Sept. 17

10:30 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his roommate’s bike had been stolen from the bike rack at Eichberg Hall. She stated that she was using another student’s bike and that she secured the bike to the Eichberg rack at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 17. The bike was gone when she returned from class at 9 a.m. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.

11:45 a.m.— Security responded to a call box alarm activation at Boundary Hall. Security patrolled the area, but no one was in the vicinity of the box.

4:09 p.m.— A security officer reported that she was having problems with SCAD employees and students smoking on the steps in front of Eckburg Hall. The security officer had spoken with the professors at 2 p.m. and again at 4:09 p.m. and informed them that it was against policy to smoke on the front steps of Eckburg. The security officer stated that she is having a hard time enforcing the smoking policy because the students are seeing the professors smoke on the steps and are joining them when the professors are on a smoke break.

6 p.m.— Security discovered that the card access system was not allowing students to swipe in at Norris and Boundary halls after 6 p.m. The officers were instructed to post themselves at the door of the halls and to manually check each student’s ID as they entered. A work order was placed to have the system checked in the morning.

7:40 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from Eichberg Hall. She stated that she had left the bike unsecured at Eichberg while attending classes and that the bike was missing when she returned. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police were notified of the incident and issued a report.

11:16 p.m.— A SCAD parent called dispatch and stated that she was concerned about her daughter. The woman stated that she had spoken with her daughter an hour earlier and that her daughter had been upset. Security notified the residence director on duty of the situation and gave him the parent’s contact information. At 11:34 p.m. the parent called security and stated that she had just spoken with her daughter and that everything was OK.

Sept.  18

1:24 a.m.— Security responded to a medical call at a room in Turner House. A SCAD student stated that she felt ill and wanted to go to the hospital.

5:50 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the room. The alarm was silenced and reset.

Sept. 19

5:30 p.m.— Security observed a homeless man walking near the 4000 building of Boundary Village. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police were notified and arrested the individual.

6 p.m.— An unknown individual was observed loitering around the fence line at Boundary Village. It appeared as if the individual was waiting to “piggy back” through the main door. A supervisor was dispatched and it was determined that the individual was a guest of a student. Security explained the visitor procedures to the student and the guest and had them sign in at the booth.

Sept. 20

11:40 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from the bike rack in front of Oglethorpe House. He stated that he had locked his bike to the rack at 5 p.m. Sept. 19, and that the bike was missing when he returned at midnight the same day. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report. The bike was registered with SCAD security.

5:35 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her off-campus residence on West Duffy Street had been burglarized between 11 p.m. Sept. 19 and 2 a.m. Sept. 20. She stated that she had already informed Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police and that they had issued a report.
