College Security Report: Sept. 11-15, 2009
Sept. 11
7:10 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security determined that the alarm was false. Sonitrol alarm company was notified of the situation and planned to have a tech look at the system.
Sept. 12
1:13 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Abercorn Terrace. Upon arrival, security met with the Savannah Fire Department and it was determined that the alarm was false and was caused by a student taking a shower. The alarm was silenced and reset.
2:30 a.m.— Security found a blue luggage bag in the Turner Annex parking lot. Security opened the bag to try and locate the owner’s name. Upon opening the bag, security discovered a small quantity of drugs and drug paraphernalia. The bag was taken to the Dispatch office.
1 p.m.— Security was notified that two students had cash taken from their purses at the Savannah Civic Center. Both students stated that they had left their purses unsecured at the stage area. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
7:40 p.m.— Security responded to a water flow alarm activation at Barnard Village. Security determined that there had been no water flow and that the alarm was false, caused by a system glitch. The alarm was silenced, but immediately reactivated. Sonitrol alarm company was called and a tech responded to Barnard for emergency service.
Sept. 13
3:30 a.m.— A SCAD individual to security that her car had been vandalized while it was parked near Propes Hall at Bryan and Drayton Streets. The complainant stated that her passenger window had been broken, but that nothing was missing from the vehicle. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
4:47 a.m.— Security responded to a call box activation at Boundary Hall. Two non-SCAD individuals had activated the alarm after being assaulted near Savannah Station. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
7:40 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Barnard Village. Security determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm. The alarm was silenced and reset.
Sept. 14
time of the report not provided— A SCAD student reported to security on Sept. 14 that his bike had been stolen from the Savannah Civic Center bike rack at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 12. He stated that he had locked the bike to the rack early morning Sept. 12 and that the bike was missing when he returned to the lot at 8:30 p.m. the same day. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
9:20 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from the Savannah Civic Center parking lot. She stated that she had chained the bike to a pole in the lot at 10:08 p.m. Sept. 13 and that the bike was missing when she returned to the lot at 9:20 a.m. Sept. 14. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
9:50 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security determined that the alarm was caused by a student cooking in the dorm. The alarm was silenced and reset.
10:40 a.m.— Security responded to vehicle accident at the Equestrian Center involving a SCAD bus hitting the gate access keypad.
11:02 p.m.— An on-call counselor contacted security and requested transport for herself and a student to Memorial University Medical Center from Oglethorpe House. Security responded to the scene and provided transport.
Sept. 15
6:40 a.m.— A SCAD employee reported to security that there had been a man standing in front of Poetter Hall staring at the monitor through the window. She stated that the man asked her if she worked there and followed her to the front door, but departed when two joggers went by. She also stated that she had seen the same individual standing in front of the building last week.
1:30 p.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Anderson and Habersham streets in front of Anderson Hall. A SCAD student had been struck by a car while riding her bike. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report. EMS responded to the scene and transported the student to Memorial University Medical Center.
9 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from an off-campus location at Habersham and Oglethorpe streets. She stated that she had locked the bike to a signpost at 11 a.m. Sept. 14, and that the bike was gone when she returned at 4 p.m. on the same day. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to Dispatch and issued a report.
10:57 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that her bike had been stolen from the bike rack at Crites Hall. She stated that she had locked the bike to the rack at 8:40 p.m. Sept. 15, and that the bike was missing when she returned at 10 p.m. on the same day. She did not want police response.
