College Security Report: March 24-30, 2009
March 24
4:40 a.m.— Security discovered the Byte Café exterior door was unsecured. Security patrolled the building and found nothing out of the ordinary. Maintenance had been in the building earlier in the morning and may have forgotten to lock the door. Security performed extra patrols of the area until the Byte Café opened in the morning.
9:33 a.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Arnold Hall. A SCAD student was complaining of chest and shoulder pains. She stated that she did not want EMS response, but would rather go to the SCAD clinic. At 10 a.m. a friend of hers picked her up at Arnold Hall and transported her to the SCAD clinic.
12:21 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that someone had stolen his bike from an off-campus location. He stated that he had locked his bike to a metal rail at 555 Berrien Street at 12:01 a.m. March 24, and that his bike was missing when he returned at noon the same day. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
March 25
9 a.m.— Security responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a non-SCAD individual and a parked car at Poetter Hall. The woman stated that she had accidentally hit a parked vehicle belonging to a SCAD professor, causing damage to the driver’s side (door and front wheel) of the vehicle. Neither owner wished to have police notified of the incident, but exchanged insurance information on their own.
March 26
12:29 a.m.— Security responded to medical at Alexander Hall involving an Allied Barton security employee. The security officer stated that she tripped and fallen while on patrol at Alexander Hall and had injured her hand. The security officer stated that she did not need EMS response.
9:08 a.m.— Security responded to a vehicle accident involving a SCAD employee and a non-SCAD individual at the corner of Henry and Whitaker streets. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
3:10 p.m.— Security responded to a medical call at Montgomery Hall. A SCAD student stated that she had not eaten in awhile and had passed out while attending class. EMS responded to the scene and cleared the student to return to class.
March 27
No activity was reported.
March 28
5:30 a.m.— A Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police officer arrived at Oglethorpe House to investigate an off-campus incident involving a SCAD student. The student was not on site and the officer indicated that he would return later to speak with the student.
7:32 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at Clinard Hall. Security determined that the alarm was caused by an employee entering the building. The alarm was silenced and reset.
9:02 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at Evans Hall. Security determined that the alarm was caused by maintenance entering the building. The alarm was silenced and reset.
9:13 a.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at Habersham Hall. Security determined that the alarm was false and the alarm was silenced and reset.
1:31 p.m.— Security was notified of a slip-and-fall medical call at the front of Shop SCAD. A non-SCAD individual had missed a step while exiting Shop SCAD and fell to the pavement causing a bruise to the right side of her face. EMS responded to the scene and transported her to Candler Hospital. Pictures were taken of the scene.
3:40 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that she had lost her wallet sometime between noon and 1:30 p.m. at J.O.’s Café. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded and issued a report.
4:24 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his bike had been stolen from the bike rack at Jen Library. He stated that he had locked the bike to the rack at 4 p.m. March 26 and that the bike was gone when he returned at 10:20 a.m. March 27. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
4:53 p.m.— Security responded to an alarm activation at a room in Boundary Village. Security determined that the alarm was a false alarm and reset the system.
March 29
7:40 a.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that someone had vandalized her car while it was parked at the Weston House lot. The student stated that she had parked the vehicle at 5 p.m. on March 28 at that when she returned to the vehicle at 7:40 a.m. March 29, someone had taken her front license plate and had smeared cigarette ashes on her front windshield. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
5:30 p.m.— Security responded to an elevator entrapment at Turner House. Security called Atlantic Coast Elevator service. Atlantic Coast arrived on scene at 6:13 p.m. and was able to get the people out of the elevator.
March 30
10 a.m.— Security responded to medical at Pepe Hall involving an Allied Barton security employee. Security officer stated that she was experiencing shortness of breath. EMS responded to the scene and transported the security officer to Memorial University Medical Center.
7:54 p.m.— A SCAD student reported to security that his vehicle had been broken into while it was parked between Clifford and 49th streets. He stated that his front passenger window had been broken and items had been stolen. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to the scene and issued a report.
