In case you missed it: CIA needs BFAs

BY CARLOS SERRANO

Three representatives from the Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) Multimedia Production Group visited SCAD Feb. 17 and gave a presentation in the Arnold Hall auditorium on the type of work students from SCAD could do for the CIA.

Acknowledging the incredulity students might have about working for the CIA, the representatives pointed out that the Multimedia Production Group (MPG) is a part of the organization most people did not think about. They said, however, that it was still an important part, and students should not be quick to dismiss the possibility.

They went on to explain that the MPG is part of the CIA’s Directorate of Intelligence and has four offices: the Design Center, the Cartography Center, the Interactive and Web Development Production Center and the Current Intel Production Center. Of the four, their presentation focused on the Design Center, for which they were currently recruiting.

According to the representatives, the Design Center works mainly on creating charts and infographics for various other offices and publications. Most of their projects follow certain templates, but they said that all designers were given chances for creativity within them.

Any SCAD students interested in applying should keep in mind that their requirements include a degree in graphic design or a related field, as well as an understanding of the Adobe Creative Suite. Applicants should also consider that, as this is the CIA, they would undergo a background investigation.

Ultimately, it is another job opportunity, just with a little more bragging rights.
