“Adventure Time” at Le Snoot

Not even the pouring rain could dampen the spirits at the opening night of art gallery Le Snoot’s highly anticipated show, “A Tribute to Adventure Time.” The festivities served as a testament to the wildly successful Cartoon Network show “Adventure Time,”which will premiere its sixth season on April 21. Le Snoot, a non-traditional gallery, was chock-full of local art submissions done in a range of media including, but not limited to, digital prints, embroidery, and paintings.
Le Snoot’s Facebook page said that more than 240 people were slated to attend the event, which featured art of every shape and form. The show’s immense popularity certainly allowed for the many different artistic interpretations represented, but Le Snoot’s loose submission guidelines, as well as its policy of allowing an unlimited amount of entries, really helped to boost the multitude of unexpected and original interpretations of the Emmy-winning cartoon.
The petite gallery was brimming with art students and Savannahians alike. Of course, Le Snoot isn’t your traditional gallery. Housed inside a cupcake shop, visitors have the luxury of munching on cupcakes while browsing the artwork. Guests were invited to create their own good or evil wizard for a wizard battle illustration wall – an opportunity that many of the younger guests took on with excitement.
Le Snoot owner and creative director, Logan McDonald told Connect Savannah, “Le Snoot is like a party. We’re not about snooty people and I think ‘Adventure Time’ really ties into that and more of our style – not so much fine art, but having a good time.”
Displayed on wooden paneling, the gallery’s artwork showed just how excited people were about their beloved characters on “Adventure Time.” McDonald put out a call for submissions at the end of February to an overwhelming response; entries began rolling in within 24 hours.
Although “A Tribute to Adventure Time” is a fun exhibition for one of the most successful cartoons in recent years, the fact that the series has been nominated for both Annie and Emmy Awards made the gallery’s efforts feel less like a tribute and more like a casual gathering. It’s hard to compete with the Emmys with such a laid-back atmosphere and gallery space.
Le Snoot’s exhibition, though obviously popular, doesn’t quite hold up to other “Adventure Time” tributes that have come before it. Last year’s “Adventure Time & Regular Show Group Art Exhibit,” held at the Mondo Gallery in Austin, Texas, and California-based Gallery Nucleus’s “A Look Behind the Land of Ooo” both upstaged Le Snoot’s show. But supporting local events is always a positive and Le Snoot has created a fun, welcoming environment where guests can enjoy their cupcake of choice among friends and their community.
