Aldis Hodge continues to set the bar with his versatile acting and hard-hitting roles. Hodge’s performance in “Clemency” as a prisoner on death row required heavy research and preparation. It’s clear the casts dedication to this project paid off, as it received a standing ovation upon premiering at the Sundance Festival. “I didn’t know how they were going to react you, it’s a hauntingly beautiful masterpiece,” Hodge said. “You never know how somebody is going to react your work, but [its great] whenever you get that sort of love and support behind you.”
Last night, Hodge received the Discovery Award before the film began. Following the screening, Hodge received another standing ovation from the crowd before sitting down to discuss the process of creating this powerful film and the challenges he faced along the way. In order to connect to his character, Hodge latched onto his character’s resilient hope and strength. “For me, some of the hardest acting you can do is when you’re not saying anything,” Hodge said. “It means truly understanding the character.”
