Design Green Now is an educational program headed up by a team of designers that includes Industrial Design alumnus Matt Tyson. The program is a set of events marketed to international designers who are working towards more eco-friendly designs and products.
Design Green Now is organizing events to take place in New York City on April 1. They will be similar to their West Coast event tour that took place last year. This year they have similar goals and want to expand as well.
“The main goal is to inspire and to educate existing and immerging designers in the community on how to design for the environment,” Tyson said.
Last year during the West Coast tour, designer Yves Behar, founder of fuseproject, was one of the many industry leaders to attend the panel discussions at the Design Green Now event. Designers that will be attending this year’s events include: Stephan Von Muehlen of the Energy Hub, Andrew Personette of EcoSystems and Tiffany Threadgould from Terracycle.
For those unable to attend the events in New York, videos of the panel discussions will be available online. Videos of last year’s events are also available.
Program themes for this year include: educational discussions on materials at the Pratt Institute, waste at the Fashion Institute of Technology and energy at Parsons New School of Design. The events run in New York from April 1-13.
Interested designers can register and find out more information at the Design Green Now Web site. The events include the panel discussions along with Design Jams organized by Smart Design.
Design Jams are hands on projects that take participants through methodologies, how to apply it, and how to solve the themed problem.
The entire Design Green Now project is also a finalist on ideablob.com, an online community for small businesses to share ideas and have a chance to win $10,000 bring their ideas to fruition.
Design Green Now is up for this month’s prize and needs votes to make sure this year’s planned events will happen.
Voters have to fill out a short registration form. Design Green Now has more information about the project on their Web site, along with an informational video on the ideablob site. Design Green is in the midst of becoming a non-profit organization and hopes they can spread their ideas on using sustainable designs and techniques.
