Have you ever been one of those lucky students with back-to-back classes? At SCAD, this leaves us with the most awkward amount of time: 30 minutes. Even if you try to get some of your lightest homework done and be productive, it can be hard to stay focused for your next class if you don’t give yourself a break first.

Well, today is your lucky day. We’ve collected an oddly specific list of activities, cafes, antique stores, clothing stores and jewelry stores that you can visit during this oddly specific 30-minute window. Located near some of our most frequented academic buildings, including Arnold Hall, many of these spots, such as Foxy Loxy or Henny Penny, are already popular among students. Others often go unnoticed as we rush to get to class. Even if you don’t want to buy anything, feel free to use this list as a guide to finding stress-free, restorative or cozy spaces where you can easily get in and out.

Henny Penny

Opening our list is a place frequently visited by our coffee-loving students: Henny Penny, a charming café and art space offering coffee, pastries and a kid-friendly art area. It’s known for its creative vibe and welcoming environment.

Goody’s

Open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday through Monday, Goody’s is a Mexican-inspired spot for breakfast and brunch. It’s a small place with vintage retro vibes, and though there isn’t much space for seating, you can always order from their to-go window. Ideal for all our early birds in 8 a.m. or 11 a.m. classes, check out their affordable options like chicken sandwiches and breakfast burritos.

STUMP

Just a few steps away from Arnold Hall, STUMP is a minimalist plant store offering a curated selection of indoor plants, pots and plant care tools. Right after a studio or before a lecture class, this is the perfect indoor place to take a refreshing breath of air. Don’t feel pressured to buy, this place is very welcoming to students who stop by just to see their beautiful plants too!

Delaney Rose Boutique

Since 2021, Delaney Rose Boutique has offered a selection of women’s clothing, handmade jewelry, custom stickers and accessories. By crossing the street right in front of Arnold Hall, students can easily visit the boutique, even during 15-minute breaks. One other reason to stop by besides their amazing range of products? Honey, the owner’s beautiful golden retriever.

Blank Canvas Showroom

Right next to Delaney Rose Boutique, this is a creative retail space featuring rotating collections of local and student-made art, fashion and home decor items. Although the activity itself might take longer than 30 minutes, check out their current charm builder service, where you can pick out your chain, charms and assemble your design

Kava House

Also near Arnold Hall, Kava House serves kava-based drinks and other herbal beverages in a lounge environment for socializing and relaxation. To complement your stress-free experience, their variety of snacks also allows you to grab a quick bite in 30 minutes. Get it to go, or come in and enjoy the cozy atmosphere!

Foxy Loxy Cafe

Closing our list is Foxy Loxy, one of our biggest contenders for favorite local hangouts for coffee, Mexican bites and live music. In collaboration with E. Shaver Starland, their indoor area now includes bookshelves to complement your coffee experience with some quick reading time. The real question is, are you a Foxy Loxy or a Henny Penny fan?

Known for its fusion of Mexican and Southwestern cuisine, Java Burrito Company is a popular lunch spot for many of our international students taking classes at Norris Hall. Aleksandra’s Gift Shop

With multiple locations around Savannah, this gift shop on Abercorn Street offers a variety of unique gifts, women’s clothing and accessories. Although 30 minutes between classes might not be the best time for shopping, feel free to visit to support local vendors and artisans. For international students planning to travel home for summer break, take a look at their Savannah-themed souvenirs

Pangea
Finalizing our oddly specific list is one of my most recent favorite discoveries: Pangea. Newly opened in late February this year, this store for clothing, jewelry and handcrafted home decor takes you to a whole different world. Giving off the vibes of the world of Avatar, take a walk to this space filled with plant decorations from floor to ceiling, a small water fountain and moving bird sculptures that will leave you speechless.
