Analog to Digital conversion delayed

President Obama signed a bill delaying the nationwide conversion from analog to digital TV broadcasting until June 12.

Because the government funded coupon program ran out of funds, Obama said many TV viewers would be left in the dark.

The change was supposed to have happened on Feb. 17. Many stations around the country went ahead with the switch, while many more did not. Two local stations: ABC affiliate WJCL and PBS station WVAN-TV both went ahead with the switch. WTOC will wait until the new June 12 deadline before terminating its analog signal.

The City of Savannah is holding a recycling day for those wishing to get rid of their old analog televisions. From 10 a.m. to noon on Feb 21. residents of Chatham county may take their old televisions to Lake Mayer at 1850 E. Montgomery Cross Rd.
