Another Oddly Specific List: Things I Missed About SCAD Over the Summer
Written by Kelsey Vickers. Graphic by Micaela Alomia.
My burnout was at its worst after the spring quarter, so summer break was a necessity. Although after spending two years here, I’ve grown accustomed to the pleasures SCAD offers, I’ve missed them.
Forage at Victory Village
I love SCAD C-stores, especially Forage, one of the most plentiful of them. Without Forage at home, it was particularly frustrating when I was out of strawberries or chocolate. I desperately wanted to take a short evening walk and pop in. The reality at home is a twenty-minute drive there and back. Unfortunately, I will be missing the convenience of Forage forever because I did not get Victory Village housing this year.
SCADfit Classes
I have been to three other fitness studios, but only SCADfit checks all of my boxes. There is the most variety in types of classes and difficulty levels. I have seen the most progress in my fitness levels at SCADfit. Plus, and maybe most importantly, they are free and unlimited.
Amigos Nuevos Quesadillas
My bank account would suffer if Amigos Nuevos were a restaurant on Broughton Street. Despite living 10 minutes away, I am there about four times a week. I try to branch out, but I always fall back to a buffalo chicken quesadilla. For the days I spontaneously hate chicken, a cheese quesadilla with guacamole will do. They seem simple to make, but I have never come close to the delicacy that is Amigos Nuevos Quesadillas.
11 a.m. Classes
11 a.m. classes make me feel like I have my life together. I don’t function before 8 a.m., and 11 a.m. classes leave the perfect amount of time to go through my morning routine peacefully. It jumpstarts the day and increases my productivity for the rest of it. I work the night shift at home. Productivity during the day is difficult to manage when I have to save some energy for work.
The Walk to Arnold Hall
Full disclosure, I drive to class. Bull Street parking is consistently packed, so I end up walking a few blocks anyway. My drives are pretty stressful, considering I am chronically late. I practically jog past Henny Penny and Stump. When I see the sun peaking through the live oak around Arnold Hall, I can slow down. The sight instantly grounds me, and I feel grateful for the opportunity to be there.
