Hubble’s Law states that space cannot shrink, it is in a constant state of expansion.
But the Savannah City Council begs to differ.
At the Sept. 20 meeting of the council, members approved the ordinance to “amend and establish non-metered time controlled parking zones within an area bounded by 33rd Street on the north, 37th Street on the south, Barnard Street on the west and Abercorn Street on the east in order to improve parking availability for residents, businesses, and library patrons and staff.”
Translation? Parking space is shrinking for students attending Arnold Hall.
It has yet to be announced when non-metered parking will take effect in the Thomas Square neighborhood, but council urges that the school and residents maintain a constant line of communication.
“I do want us to be in contact with them more closely,” said Alderman Tony Thomas. “We can avoid these problems in the future.”
From a similar vein, Alderwoman Estella Shabazz shared her concern in a Thursday report by the Savannah Morning News stating that Savannah College of Art and Design students hadn’t attended many meetings involving the issue.
District reported on both the planned changes and how students would be affected, despite a lack of turnout in opposition of the amendment.
