Be happy and healthy during finals

By Augusta Statz

We all know that finals week can be hectic—that’s the understatement of the year. Regardless of how busy you are, you should take the time to do something nice for yourself. You deserve it.

Why not make that something nice something that can help you de-stress, as well?

Go outside

An article that I recently read titled, “10 Thoughts on Whole Living,” read, “Spending just five minutes outside can undo hours of pent-up stress.” So, take the time out of your day to go outside and frolic in Forsyth Park or go for a walk.

Exercise

As I’m sure we all know, exercise releases endorphins, which makes you happy. So why not do something that is good for the body and the mind? Just a few minutes of exercise a day can help you to push through your next batch of projects.

Do something nice for someone else.

Mark Twain once said, “The best way to cheer up yourself is to try to cheer somebody else up.” If you are in a good mood, you are bound to be more productive and get your work done in a stress-free manner. Ask a friend who is also having a tough time with finals, to go do something fun with you. Buy your friend ice cream. Treat yourself by treating others.

Eat healthy

Eating healthy is good for the body and the mind. Don’t slack off during finals and live off of Red Bull and pizza. Make sure you are eating foods that are good for you and give you energy, like fruits and vegetables. Healthy bodies lead to healthy minds. And you’ll need that when constantly being tested.

Make a conscious effort to do something nice for yourself during finals, even if you think that you are too busy to treat yourself. You can never be too busy for that. I feel sure that taking a little time to do something nice for yourself will benefit you in the end. Good luck with finals!
