Earth Day is just around the corner, and it’s the perfect time to show some love to the planet we call home. The 54th annual Earth Day is taking place this Monday, April 22nd! If you’re looking for ideas for celebrating this holiday, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. From quiet solo activities to entertaining community events, here are a few ideas on bee-ing green in Savannah! 

Effingham County Earth Day Festival

On the 20th, Effingham County is hosts an Earth Day Festival on the picturesque Downtown Walking Trail. The event, suitable for all ages, begins at 8 A.M., with an insect parade scheduled for 9 A.M. The festival will include live music, vendors and exciting prizes!

Skidaway Island Spring Festival

Skidaway Island State Park is holding its annual Spring Festival on April 20th, beginning at 10 A.M. The festival will feature food trucks and vendors, with an emphasis on environmentally friendly products. Additionally, the event will offer a nature hike and live animal programs throughout the day.

Enjoy Time in Nature

Walking along a trail is a great way to appreciate nature if you prefer quieter activities. On the first day of National Park Day, April 20th, Fort Pulaski offers free admission to visitors. Additionally, there are many trails in Savannah and the surrounding area: McQueen’s Island Historic Trail, Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, and Fort McAllister State Park, to name just a few.

Support Local Businesses

Some Savannah businesses prioritize environmentally friendly products, and supporting them in place of larger businesses can benefit Earth. LiteFoot, a Savannah-based refillery, offers eco-friendly swaps for everyday products. Brighter Day offers organic foods and natural medicines, providing sustainable food products. These businesses not only contribute to a healthier planet, but also aid in creating a conscious community within Savannah. 

Candler Care Day

On April 19th, the Savannah Tree Foundation will tend to the renowned Candler Oak. This historic tree, believed to have been growing since the 1700s, resides on the property of SCAD’s very own Deloitte Foundry! In honor of Earth Day, you can volunteer with the Tree Foundation and help preserve a living part of history. 

Tidy Up Savannah

A litter walk is a free activity around your home and excellent way to express gratitude to our planet. While strolling around your neighborhood, carry a bag and pick up any litter you find. You can enjoy music during your walk or invite some friends to join you.
