“Big Bad Print Show” big, but not bad [REVIEW]

Written by Raine Blunk

Despite Friday night’s rain, Le Snoot’s Big Bad Print and Poster Show proved to be a hit thanks to a big crowd turnout and a large collection of artwork to admire. In the show’s attempt to “break the confines of a small canvas and typical art gallery show,” Le Snoot featured artwork from local artists and university students in large format digital reproductions.

After what took the staff a week of printing, organizing, and hanging all of the art, throughout the gallery, posters hung featuring a variety of mediums — from abstract illustrations to digitally manipulated renditions of movie posters. Prices of the pieces varied from $25 to $75 for different types of prints.

Simon Cooper, a third year illustration major, took the opportunity to display his piece, “SHAKTAYA” in the gallery. “I think this whole show is incredible and it’s really nice that this gallery can give an opportunity for a lot of people [to display their artwork,]” said Cooper.

Nestled in the back of the gallery was a booth open for the crowd to interact with the show by decorating a paper cutout of a wolf in customizable clothing for a contest on Le Snoot’s Facebook page.

“I definitely had a great time! Coming to an opening like this really makes me consider entering for the next show,” said Leta Tsai, a third year illustrations major.

One of Le Snoot’s co-founders, Matt Jackson, explained the gallery’s upcoming event, A Tee Party, which opens March 29.

“It think it’s slowly snowball effecting into the next event. We do not just want to stick to illustration, but branch out into all different types of mediums,” said Jackson. “It still ties in with us as a print gallery, but just on something wearable.”

Le Snoot’s Big Bad Print and Poster Show will remain open for the rest of the week at Le Snoot, located on 6 E. State St.
